CITY OF AZUSA
MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL,
AND THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
SPECIAL MEETING
MAY 12,1997 -7:00 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned regular session at the above date and
time in the Cafetorium of Slauson School.
Mayor Madrid called the meeting to order.
PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARDISON, STANFORD, ROCHA, BEEBE,
MADRID
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ALSO PRESENT:
City Administrator Garcia, Chief of Police Broderick, Administrative Analyst Dadaian,
Community Development Director Bruckner, Interim Redevelopment Director Steel, City
Engineer Abbaszadeh, Deputy City Clerk Toscano.

The purpose of the meeting was to conduct a workshop with the community on the design Discussion re:
concepts for the Downtown Area. The area of discussion is on Azusa Avenue from 5th Street Downtown Area
to 9th Street. Discussion was held between Councilmembers, audience and representatives
of Urban Design Studios regarding the following: Trees, trash canisters, lights, bollards,
teakwood benches that will line Azusa Avenue, banner signs and color; a majority agreed on
blue with city logo, which are $400.00 a piece with need to be replaced 4 times a year,
Guadalupe Palms versus Fan Palm. Trees were a topic of discussion with orange versus lemon
trees, as Ficus trees become a problem they will be replaced with a mixture of orange and
lemon trees. Everyone agreed that there will be no pavers, the use of concrete lasts longer.
It was consensus of Councilmembers to adjourn.
