HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3846RESOLUTION NO. 3846 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO PERMIT LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL JURISDICTIONS TO TAX POSSESSORY INTERESTS IN PERSONAL PROPERTY. WHEREAS, the State Supreme Court has ruled that a local governmental agency may not assess and levy taxes on federal property being processed by a private contractor, and WHEREAS, personal property in the amount of $258,000,000 has been removed from the tax rolls of Los Angeles County; resulting in an annual reduction in general revenues of about 5 million dollars to the County, 3 million dollars to cities, and 8 million dollars to school districts in the county, and WHEREAS, the facilities processing the products for the Federal government require the identical and equal services of local government that similar facilities doing private work require; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the State Legislature be requested to enact such statutes as will permit local governmental jurisdictions to tax possessory interests in personal property. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and transmit a certified copy thereof to the Senator and to each Assemblyman from the County of Los Angeles.
