HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3844• RESOLUTION NO. 3844 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO REVISE THE MAYO -BREED FORMULA TO INCREASE SOUTHLAND HIGHWAY FUNDS. WHEREAS, the Mayo -Breed formula for distribution of State Highway funds between the northern and southern parts of the State provides for an allocation of 55% to the southern area; and WHEREAS, motor vehicle operators of the southern counties now contribute 63% of the State Highway users gas tax revenues as compared to 37% contributed by counties located north of the Tehachapi Mountains; and WHEREAS, population and registration of motor vehicles in the southern part of the State far exceed the counties located north of the Tehachapi Mountains and present allocations of gas tax funds for State highway construction are inadequate to meet the needs of this area; and WHEREAS, construction of State highways is of mutual benefit to both cities and counties in Southern California and strengthening of the State Highway program in this area would help to alleviate and accelerate the critical highway need badly lagging under present formula; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of California is hereby urgently requested to revise the Mayo -Breed formula for the distribution of gas tax funds for State highways between the northern and southern parts of the State to provide that no less than 60% of the State highway users gas tax revenues be allocated to that area south of the Tehachapi Mountains. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if such formula is changed, that the distribution of the additional 5% be allocated in a manner mutually agreeable with the League of California Cities, the County Supervisors Association of California and the State of California. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and transmit certified copies thereof to the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles, and to the State Senator and to each Assemblyman from the County of Los Angeles. Adopted and approved this lgthday of January , 1959.
