A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA OPPOSING THE ENACTMENT OF
LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD JEOPRADIZE THE
EXISTING FEDERAL INTERSTATE AND DEFENSE
HIGHWAY PROGRAM BY REDUCING THE AVAIL-
ABILITY OF FUNDS
WHEREAS, the continued growth and progress of Los Angeles
County, the State of California and the Nation as a whole are
dependent upon an adequate transportation system based prima-
rily upon continued and expanded use of the motor vehicle; and
WHEREAS, the basic transportation system in the Los Angeles
Metropolitan Area is dependent upon construction of vital seg-
ments of Interstate and Defense Highways, such as Golden State,
San Diego, Santa Monica, San Gabriel, Foothill, Santa Ana and
San Bernardino Freeways; and
WHEREAS, our present 20 -year freeway construction program
is based on the assumption that Federal Interstate Financing
will continue, providing approximately 50% of the financing ne-
cessary to maintain our present rate of construction; and
WHEREAS, on both local and national levels, the Interstate
program is necessary to keep up with highway transportation needs
of our growing population,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Azusa, being dedicated to general community betterment,
does hereby call upon The Honorable John Rousselot and all other
members of the Congress to take aggressive and positive action
to prevent enactment of legislation which would jeopardize the
existing Federal Interstate and Defense Highway Program by re-
ducing the availability of Federal Funds to the various states
of the Nation.
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolution.
Adopted and approved this 19th day of December, 1960.

I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 19th day of December, 1960, by the
following vote of the Council:
AYES: Councilmen: Paul, McLees, Johnson, Teasley, Ortuno
NOES: Councilmen: None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None
