HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4232RESOLUTION NO. 4232 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ESTABLISHING THE POLICY OF THE CITY WITH RESPECT TO OVERTIME WORK AND COMPENSATION THEREFOR. The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. The policy of the City of Azusa with respect to overtime work and compensation therefor or compensatory time off is hereby established as follows: 1. Overtime is time worked in excess of 40 hours per week. (Except Firemen). 2. Overtime may be required of employees when deemed to be in the best interests of the City to do so. 3. Overtime may be defined as either (1) EmergencZ Overtime required to preserve the public peace, health or safety, or c eu ed Overtime required in all other instances than that above. 4. Compensation for overtime shall be, (1) Cash payment com- puted at the rate of one and one-half times the hourly rate of the employee for Emergency Overtime, (2) either cash payment or time off equal to the actual time worked for Scheduled Overtime. 5. The Administrative head of the department may authorize Emergency Overtime worked without prior authorization but must report such overtime within the following work day to the City Administrator. The department heads report will include the enployees names, hours worked, estimated cost, and adequate reason for the work being done to justify the added expense. 6. Authorization for the cash payment of Scheduled Overtime will be requested of the City Administrator by the department head each six months, in advance, for the following six-month period. Requests for authorization to pay cash in lieu of Compensatory Time shall clearly set forth the best estimates of occasions requiring overtime, the esti- mated hours, estimated coat, the employee classifications to perform the work, and justification. 7. Compensatory Time credited to any employee may be accumu- lated but must be taken off by the end of the sixth month from the date worked. Time not taken off will be lost. 8. Compensatory Time Off due an employee must be taken at the department's convenience with all due consideration for the employeefs wishes as to time. 9. Compensatory Time due an employee at separation may be paid in cash by requesting such action of the City Administrator. 10. No employee above the first level of supervision will receive cash for overtime worked except with the recommendation of the City Administrator and the approval of the City Council. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
