A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA AMENDING CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF RESOLUTION
N0. 4131 RELATING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That portion of Section 1 of Resolution No. 4131,
adopted January 3, 1961, relating to the Fire Department is hereby
amended to read as follows:

SECTION 2. Section 2 of said Resolution No. 4131 is hereby
amended by the addition to the classification schedules attached thereto
of that certain classification schedule for Assistant Fire Chief which is
attached hereto marked Exhibit A and made a part hereof.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution.
Adopted and approved this 19th day of March, 1962.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting
thereof held on the 19th day of March , 19620 by the following
vote of the Council:

ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF
Definition
F
Under direction to assist in planning and directing the work of the
Fire Department in the protection of life and property from losses
due to fire; to direct an adequate city-wide program of fire preven-
tion; training Fire Department personnel and to do other related work
as required in the Rules and Regulations of the Fire Department.
Typical Tasks
Assists in planning, directing and reviewing activities of personnel
performing fire inspection, fire prevention and fire fighting; assumes
command of the Fire Department in the absence of the Chief; answers
all fire alarms and is in charge until the Chief's arrival; supervises
the inspection of Fire Department equipment; makes personnel assign-
ments of firefighting personnel .with a view of controlling and extin-
guishing fires as quickly as possible; investigates fire hazards and com-
plaints; in the absence of the Chief, he shall assume responsible con-
trol of the Department, performs the duties of, and exercises the power
incidental to the office of the Chief.
Employment standards
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to
that represented by completion of the twelfth grade; shall hold the rank
of Fire Engineer or above; shall have had not less than five years of
continuous service in a regular munipipal fire department immediately
prior to appointment; thorough knowledge of modern methods of fire
department administration; thorough knowledge of the methods, tech-
niques and equipment used in modern fire fighting and ability to put
them into practice; good knowledge of fire prevention, equipment main-
tenance and drill procedures; ability to plan and direct fire prevention
and fire fighting activities and to assume leadership; ability to establish
and maintain good public relations; ability to maintain records and pre-
pare reports.
