HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4709RESOLUTION NO. 4709 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 4232 AND RESOLUTION NO. 4370 THEREBY ESTABLISHING A NEW POLICY WITH RESPECT TO OVERTIME WORK AND COMPENSATION THEREFOR. The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. The policy of the City of Azusa with respect to overtime work and compensation therefor or compensatory time off is hereby established as follows: A. OVERTIME is time worked in excess of 40 hours per week, except Firemen who are on a scheduled twenty-four hour shift. B. OVERTIME for Firemen who are on a scheduled twenty-four hour shift is time worked in excess of an average of 62 hours per week. C. OVERTIME may be required of employees when deemed to be in the best interest of the City to do so. D. OVERTIME DEFINED. (1) EMERGENCY OVERTIME - that which 1s required to preserve the public peace, health or safety. (2) SCHEDULED OVERTIME - that which is required in all other instances than that above. E. COMPENSATION for overtime shall be as follows: (1) EMERGENCY OVERTIME - Cash payment computed at the rate of one and one-half times the hourly rate of the employee. Emergency overtime does not apply to the Safety Departments. (2) SCHEDULED OVERTIME - Cash payment at the hourly nate of the employee. (3) COMPENSATORY TIME OFF - Equal to the actual time worked for emergency or scheduled overtime at the discretion of the employee, upon the approval of the Department Head. Compensatory time may be accrued to a maximum of 160 hours. F. AUTHORIZATION for emergency or scheduled overtime may be made by the Administrative Head of the Department. The Administrative Head of the Department shall on the following work day report to the City Administrator, the name of the employee, hours worked, and the reason the overtime was necessary. G. COMPENSATORY TiME OFF due an employee must be taken at the Department's convenience. H. COMPENSATORY TIME OFF due an employee at separation from City employment shall be at the hourly rate prevailing at the time the overtime was worked. The employee must request such payment of the City Administrator, after approval of Department Head. I. EMPLOYEES above the first level of supervision will not receive cash payment for overtime worked without recommendation of the City Administrator and the approval of the City Council. SECTION 2. Resolutions Nos. 4232 and 4370 of the City Council of the City of Azusa are hereby repealed. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. Adopted and approved this 3rd day of August, 1964.
