HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4704RESOLUTION N0. 4704 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS, OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, TO MAKE A TRAFFIC COUNT SURVEY AND INSTALL A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY ON FOOTHILL BOULEVARD WITH TODD AVENUE IN THE CITY OF AZUSA. WHEREAS, a critical traffic congestion problem exists on Foothill Boulevard (U. S. Route No. 66) between Irwindale Avenue on the west and Georgia Avenue in the City of Azusa on the East, and WHEREAS, traffic on said portion of Foothill Boulevard is uncontrolled by signals or other traffic control devices, and WHEREAS, during peak hours more than 1,000 employees of Aetron Division of Aerojet-General Corporation and other plants attempt to enter or leave their plants and offices via intersect- ing streets or private driveways within said area, and WHEREAS, the heavy and constant flow of traffic along Foothill Boulevard interferes with traffic attempting to enter or leave Foothill Boulevard and renders such movements hazardous, and WHEREAS, Todd Avenue is being made a part of the Select System of highways of the City of Azusa, is on the City's Master Plan of Streets and Highways and the City is proceeding with its design and construction, and WHEREAS, a traffic signal on Foothill Boulevard at Todd Avenue would create breaks in the traffic to permit safer ingress and egress; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve that the Department of Public Works, Division of Highways,of the State of California be respectfully and ur- gently requested to conduct a traffic count survey and investi- gation of traffic conditions along Foothill Boulevard between Irwindale Avenue and Georgia Avenue and particularly at the inter- section of Todd Avenue with Foothill Boulevard, and to cooperate with the City of Azusa in the installation and maintenance of a traffic signal at Foothill Boulevard and Todd Avenue. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and shall transmit a certified copy thereof to the Division of Highways of the Department of Public Works of the State of California. Approved and adopted this 3rd day of August, 1964.
