RESOLUTION NO. 2460
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA URGING VOTERS TO VOTE NO. ON PROPOSITION
NUMBER 1, 11MICH PROVIDES FOR THE EXEMPTION FROM
TAXES OF PERSONAL PROPERTY.
The City Council of the City of Azusa hereby resolve
as follows:
Section 1. That whereas there is to be a general state
election called for.on November 7th, 1950 and whereas State
sition No. 1 provides in effect that personal property be
t from taxes by the City of Azusa and other cities and
hereas if said State Proposition No. 1 is carried the City of
zusa will be deprived of $39,200.00 income from taxes on personal
roperty and whereas it will be necessary for the city officers
nd their employees to replace said amount by additional taxes
n other taxes or by .increasing the sales tax or some other
lternative tax.
Section 2. The City Council does urge all voters of the
ity of Azusa to vote no on State Proposition No. 1 in the coming
er 7th election as.the City Council feels that depriving
City of Azusa of the revenue from the taxation of personal
will make it necessary to shift the taz burden to some
her method and will allow a great number of people to have
onal property which is exempt from taxes and not carry their
ion of the burden of taxes.
Section 3. The City Council feels that this matter is

f concern to all citizens and tax payers of the City of Azusa and

hat they should be advised in advance that if said State Proposit

o. 1 carries increased taxes on homes and other types of taxes

11 of necessity result to replace the revenue lost to the City
f Azusa.

Section 4. The City Council feels that said Proposition

o. 1 by such exemption would not be uniform in its benefits and

ould shift the personal property taxes from large business

1 enterprises and users of rental property to the owners of real
2 property and srhall home owners and will adversly affect the tax
3 base which is the life blood of local government. And, in
4 addition, said Proposition would impair the operation of schools,
5 counties and other governmental functions which are built upon
6 the personal property tax structure. No provision is made in
7 said proposition to replace the summof money which would be lost
8 to the City of Azusa and other political subdivisions.
9 Section 5. The City Council feels that to eliminate

11 State Proposition No. 1 be defeated.
