the united hates is again taking the lead in consideration by all of
our citizens, of the state of our r'ation's strength through its tradit-
ional observance of ivational Security Week, a period sought by the ROA
and proclaimed by the President of the united otates, the Governor of
our otate, and the anayors of our various cities, and
WHEREAS. there is always a need to combat the lethargy and apathy toward military
affairs which would render this nation virtually defenseless, and
ivitr.aEdo, our city as part of a great nation has just emerged from a great war
in which our people demonstrated their strength and character and now
face the traditional postwar energy of reaction and pseudo pacifism, and
iwh^catEdd, under these circumstances of international unrest and uncertainties, of
jealousies and distrust among nations, and of economic, ideological,
and national rivalries, it is more important probably than ever before
that our entire citizenry must be kept informed and aroused to the
dangers to our National security;

that we commend the Reserve officers association for its lead-
ership in establishing this national decurity 'week observance; that Nye
pledge to the iioA and the many organizations assisting in this observance
our fullest cooperation; and that vie urge all of our fellow citizens
to join together in this all-important observance.

has observed the period of February 12 through February 22, inclusive,
as idational 6eeurity ';leek, in which virtually every civic and patriotic
group in the city has joined, and

constant potential threat to our nation and our traditions of freedom,
and placing grave responsibilities upon our nation's leaders, and
WHME6is, the needs for preserving our national strength, v`hich must be recognized
by all our people, bring responsibilities not only of equal import
to every state and community, but also to every individual citizen,
4h:RcrG?E, as Mayor of the city of AZUSA , y do hereby proclaim
the period of February 12 through February 22, 1949, as national ueourity
reek, during which it is urged that the official flag of the united states
be displayed on all official buildings and at other appropriate places ,
on city property, and that the many business, civic, and patriotic org-
anizations demonstrate by other means their support of the RU& and national
jecurity 'week and that every citizen give every cooperation to the observ-
ance and give prayerful consideration to the dutiep facing us all.
