1 RESOLUTION NO. 2698
2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA,.COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF
g CALIFORNIA, RESCINDING RESOLUTION NUMBER 2684
AND DESIGNATING CERTAIN STREETS IN THE CITY
g OF AZUSA.AS MAJOR CITY STREETS AND REMOVING
CERTAIN STREETS -FROM THE LIST OF STREETS KNOWN
5 AS MAJOR CITY STREETS.
6
7 The -City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve
8 as follows:
9 Section 1. Whereas, there has recently been various changes
10 in the traffic situation within the City of Azusa and the traffic
11 problem has suddenly become of major importance in certain portions
12 of the City of Azusa, and,
13 Section 2. Whereas, among other things, Aerojet Engineering
14 Corporation, a plant vitally connected with furnishing materials
15 necessary for the defense of our country, have recently found
16 it necessary to instal parking lots for the parking of employees
17 and others in the Western terminus of certain streets within the
lg City of Azusa, and have increased materially the traffic on
19 said streets as well as other streets leading to their main
20 arterials for the purpose of.ingress and egress to and from
21 their plant.
22 Section 3. Now, therefore, it is resolved that, in the
23 opinion of the City Council, it is vital to the City of Azusa that
24 certain streets, or portions thereof, be made major city streets,
25 and other streets be eliminated from the streets designated as
26 major city streets.
27 Section 4. The following streets shall be made and designated
28 as major city streets:
29 A. Hollyvale, between Virginia Avenue and the Western
30 terminus thereof, 305 feet, more or.less, West of
31 Coney Avenue.
32 b. Fourth Street, between Orange Place and the Westerly
-1-
1 terminus thereof, 305 feet, more or less, West of
2 Coney Avenue,
3 C. Bayliss Avenue, between Virginia Avenue and the
4 Westerly terminus thereof, 305 feet, more or less,
5 West of Coney Avenue.
8 The above streets feed and take care of traffic directly
7 in and,out of Aerojet Engineering Corporation.
8 D. That Virginia Avenue, between Third Street and
9 Foothill Boulevard, is a street upon which said
10 traffic empties, and shall be made.and designated as
11 a major city street.
1z
E. That Eleventh Street shall be made and designated
13
as a major city street between Azusa Avenue and
14
Vernon Avenue, Eleventh Street has been designated
15
as a -major city street East of Azusa Avenue and
16
Vernon -Avenue has also been designated as a major
17
city street. Therefore, the designation of Eleventh
18
Street as a major city street West of Azusa Avenue to
19
Vernon Avenue would provide the necessary connection
20
between these two major city streets. Eleventh
21
Street and Vernon Avenue carry a great deal of
22
traffic originating North of Foothill Boulevard, and
23
relieve traffic conjestion on Foothill Boulevard
24
thrpugh,the business district.
25
F. Pasadena Avenue, between Eleventh.Sireet and Broadway,
26
shall be made and designated as a major city street
27
because said street is a through street and carries
28 a great deal of traffic.
29 Section 5.• It is further resolved that the following streets
30 shall be eliminated from the streets designated as major city
31 streets:
32 A. Angeleno Avenue, between Foothill Boulevard and
-2-
1 Eleventh Street;
2 B. Dalton Avenue between Eleventh and Second Streets; and
3 C. Soldano Avenue, between Eleventh and Second
4 Streets, for the reason that said streets run
5 parallel to Pasadena Avenue and are not through
6 streets to the same extent that Pasadena Avenue is,
7 and; as a.result thereof, heavy traffic is thrown
8 upon Pasadena Avenue.
9 Section 6. It is further resolved that this is a matter
10 vital to the health and well-being of the community and itis
11 desired that this matter be taken care of as expediently as
12 possible in order to.avoid the possibility of major accidents.
13 Section '7. Resolution Number 2684 and.all other resolutions
14 or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby rescinded.
15 Section 8. It is further resolved that.the Mayor shall
16 sign this resolution and the City Clerk shall attest the same
