HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 26941 RESOLUTION NO. 269h 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY .OF AZUSA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF 3 CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING PROPOSITION NUMBER 10 AND URGING THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF AZUSA 4 TO VOTE "NO" ON PROPOSITION NUMBER 10 AT THE NOVEMBER 4, 1952 ELECTION. 5 6 The City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve 7 as follows: 8 Section 1. WHEREAS, Proposition Number 10 would prohibit the 9 proper and economical use of public funds for obvious public 10 purposes by the joint action of all of the cities and other public 11 agencies of California; and 12 13 Section 2. WHEREAS, Proposition Number 10 does not prohibit the separate expenditure of public funds to urge legislation of interest 14 to the City of Azusa but merely prevents the City of Azusa from 15 joining with sister municipalities in urging the adoption of state 16 and federal legislation of interest to all cities or -opposing the 17 18 enactment of measures which would be immediately harmful to city residents; and 19 Section 3. WHEREAS, Proposition Number 10, which in no way 20 21 relates to pensions, is advanced by pension promoter George McLain zz to punish those who opposed and defeated a former McLain pension 23 program; and 24 Section 4. WHEREAS, Proposition Number 10 does not prohibit 25 private interests from influencing legislation on a collective zs basis but only prohibits collective representation of public 27 interests and agencies; and 28 Section 5. WHEREAS, Proposition Number 10 permanently destroys 29 or severely damages a countless number of quasi -public agencies whose only purpose is the advancement of good government and the 30 public interest, such as.the League of California Cities, the 31 Shoreline Planning, District Attorneys, Irrigation Districts, Fire 32 =1- 1 Chiefs, Supervisors, School Trustees and School Administrators 2 Associations, and the California Conference of Social Workers; and 3 Section 6. WHEREAS, Proposition Number 10 would cause the 4 wasteful and extravagant expenditure of public funds to do in - 5 dividually what now may be economically achieved jointly by cities 6 and other public agencies of California,. including the state and 7 its departments and agencies, 6 Section 7. NOW, THEREFORE, it is resolved that the City 9 Council of the City of Azusa is opposed to the adoption of 10 Proposition Number 10 because it would cause untold harm to the 11 cities of California and their citizens and urges the electors 12 of the City of Azusa to vote "No" on Proposition Number 10 at the 13 November 4, 1952, election. 14 Section 8.
