HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1352RESOLUTION NO. /3SZ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR OF SAID CITY TO MAKE APPLICATION TO THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR A PERMIT TO CONSTRUCT A SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT FOR SAID CITY OF AZUSA WITHIN SAID CITY. Resolved by the City Council of the City of Azusa, that pursuant and subject to all the terms, conditions and provisions of the Public Health Act of the State of California, approved March, 23,1.907, and all amendments thereto, application by this City be made to the State.Board of Health of the State of California, for a permit to construct new sewage treatment lvarkb for said City to consist of p� elhimgry treatment in a settling tank, the effluent of this tank; nto a dosing chamber where it is chlorinated; discharged from dosing chamber by a siphon through a series of pipes and sprayed on a sprinkling filter bed 5 feet in depth -the effluent being col- lected in a series of drains on the floor of the bed -and discharged into a final settling tank and the effluent fr,omtthis tank spread over the porous soil of the site adjacent to the tmea;tment plant, which is composed oft,ea,,pd and gravel to a depth of 80 feet of more, to percolate throughAtne strata of the San.Gabriel River basin or may be used for irrigating purposes. The sludge settling out in the preliminary and final settling tanks to be scraped by means of me- chanical scrapers into a sump from which it is pumped into a sepa- rate sludge digestion tank. This last mentioned tank is air -tight. The gases accumulating in the sludge digestion tank flow into a gas- holder to be stored. During cold weather this gas will be used for fuel to heat the sewage in the sludge digestion tank thereby main- taining temperatures favorable to the growth of anaerobic bacteria. After the sludge in the tank has been thoroughly digested it is drawn off through a pipe by means of hydraulic pressure to a sludge drying bed. That the Mayor, as the chief executive officer of said City Council.be and he is hereby authorized and directed to cause the necessary data to be prepared, and investigations to be made, and in the>name of said City to sign and file such application with the said State Board of Health.
