HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1322A'RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF' THE CITY OF AGUSA OPPOSING ANY.LEGISLATION THAT '+'TILL RESULT IN A DIVERSION OF .ANY PORTION OF THE GASOLINE TAX FUNDS TO THE GENERAL FUNDS OF THE STATE. The,City Council of the City of Azusa do resolve as follows: WHEREAS it has.been.brought to the attention of the City Council'of the -City of Azusa that Governor Rolph of the State of California.in his message to the legislature, on Tuesday the -3rd day of January, 1933, proposed and•recommended a diversion of the.portion of the gas tax receipts to the General Fund of the State; and WHEREAS Governor Rolph in said message, pro- posed that a portion of the gas tax receipts',be di- verted from the Road Fund and be used for purposes other than highway construction,,repair and main- tenance; and V=REAS it has been the policy of this.State to sacredly conserve the gas tax for the purpose of road construction, maintenance andrepair; and WHEREAS the construction and maintenance of good and substantial highways is one of the supreme assets of this State and brings much money into the State from tourists; and NHEREAS this gas tax is paid by automobile users with the thought in mind that it is to be used for highway purposes only; and 'd'hiEREAS it is the settled policy of the State that the Genera -I Fund should be raised from General taxation only: THEhEFORE,.BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa thatwe protest in be- half of the citizens of this City against. the diversion of any part of the gas ta:c receipts from the Road or Highway Fund as being wrong in principle, as being double taxation on automobile users and as being a step which would tend to injure the.present highway system of the State and would prevent the extension of such system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Azusa unanimously endorse the program of the League of California Municipalities, which_calls for the direct allocation of a portion of the gasoline tax revenues to the municipalities of the.State; 'r BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be sent to Assembiymen-Honr. Herbert J. Evans With the request that he use his vote and -his in- fluence against any and all Bills or proposed legislation which provide for the diversion of any.of the gas.tax receipts from the Fund in which they are no placed under the lays" I hereby certify that the -foregoing re- solution was adopted by the CityCouncil of the"City of Azusa at a regular meeting held•.'January 16th, . 1933, by the following vote,of the Council: Ayes: .Councilmen:Mace., Johnson, Morden, Meier.
