HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1129RESOLUTION NO. 1129 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROTESTING TO THE STATE ATHLETIC COM- MISSION AND TO THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AGAINST THE GRANTING OF A PERMIT TO OPERATE A PROFES- SIONAL BOXING CLUB IN THE CITY OF AZUSA. The City Council of the City of Azusa do resolve as follows: WHEREAS the attention of the City Council of the City of Azusa has been called to the fact that Mr. R. L. Gillmore.and G. J. Ellison have made applica- tion to the California State Athletic Commission for a license to organize and operate a professional Boxing Club, within said City of Azusa, and WHEREAS many protests have been filed with the City Council of said City protesting against the al- lowance of said permit to operate a boxing club which protests also request that this Council protest to the State Athletic Commission and to the Governor of the State of California, against the allowance of such license, and WHEREAS it is our judgment that a great many of the citizens of this City are earnestly opposed to such boxing exhibitions and are opposed to the grant- ing of a license to operate a Boxing Club in the City of Azusa, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa that we protest to the State of California against the granting of a permit to operate a professional Boxing Club in said City or to give exhibitions of boxing, and respectfully request that such application for permit be denied, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent at once to the California State Ath- letic Commission and to the Governor of this State. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolu- tion was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting held January 21, 1929 by the following vote of the Council: AYES!
