HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1544RESOLUTION NO. 16 -IA' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC NECESSITY AND CONVENIENCE REQUIRE THAT VERNON AVENUE, TWELFTH STREET AND SECOND STREET WITHIN SAID CITY BE IMPROVED FROM FUNDS ALLOCATED BY LOS ANGELES COUNTY OUT OF ITS SHARE OF MONEYS COL- LECTED FROM THE LEVY OF TAXES ON MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL AND DISTRIBUTED TO SAID COUNTY BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE 1937-1938 FISCAL YEAR. WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles receives a distri- bution from the State of California out of its share of moneys collected from the levy of taxes on motor vehicle fuel and said Los Angeles County has allocated to the City of Azusa the sum of $4752.22 for the 1937-1938 fiscal year for the improvement of streets within said City; and WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles requires that the City of Azusa determine and submit for approval the streets which it proposes to improve from the funds allocated; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Azusa, after a careful and thorough survey of the respective streets within said City, hereby determines and declares that the public necessity and convenience require the improvement of the following described streets and portions thereof: 1. VERNON AVENUE from Foothill Boulevard to Crescent Drive to be improved by grading to a width of 36 feet and the construction thereupon of a disintegrated granite base four (4) inches in thickness and 30 feet in width, and an asphaltic concrete (pre -mix) wearing surface 1 1/2 inches in thickness and 24 feet in width, including the widening and improvement of the railroad crossing of the Pacific Electric Railway Company, at a total estimated cost of $2731.72 . =40 •• • •0 2. TWELFTH STREET from the east line of Old San Gabriel Canyon Road to a line 890 feet westerly therefrom to be improved by grading toa width of 42 feet and the construction thereupon of a disintegrated granite base 4 inches in thickness, and an asphaltic concrete (pre -mix) wearing surface 1:1/2 inches in thickness and 36 feet in width, at a total estimated cost of $1758.00 3. SECOND STREET from Azusa Avenue to Alameda Avenue to be improved by the construction of an asphaltic concrete (pre -mix) wearing surface over existing disintegrated granite shoulders and macadam pavement 1 1/2 inches in thickness and 36 feet in width, at a total estimated cost of $262.50 Total estimated cost of all streets to be improved as given above, $4752.22 AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in connection with the construction of said improvements, the City of Azusa will furnish at its own cost and expense the services of its Street Superinten- dent, and the use of one 12 -ton Road Roller, one patrol grader, three trucks, and such other equipment as the City now has in order that said work may be completed in.a satisfactory and expeditious manner. The City Clerk of the City of Azusa is hereby authorized O and instructed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County, California, accompanied by a request that the amount of $4752.22 allocated by said County to the City of Azusa for the improvement of said streets herein mentioned be transmitted as soon as these funds are available for distribution in order that the work of construction may be commenced.
