HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1814RESOLUTION NO.1814 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AWARDING CONTRACTS FOR FURNISHING CERTAIN MATERIALS THEREFOR AND REJECTING OTHER BIDS SUB- MITTED IN THE MATTER OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 12" DIAMETER WATER MAIN AND OTHER APPURTENANCES ALONG ELEVENTH STREET AND OTHER LOCATIONS. The City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve as follows: That in the matter of the construction of a 12" diameter water main and other appurtenances along Eleventh Street and other locations, the only bid received, namely, from the Pacific Pipeline Construction Company for the construction of'the work complete, including the furnishing of all materials, labor, equipment etc., therefor was referred to the Superintendent of Water Department and 'the City Engineer, for analysis and report, and after having.given due consideration to said report and the bid received,.it is the opinion of this City Council that said bid is too high and therefore it is to the best interests of said City to reject said bid submitted, and the City Council does hereby reject said bid, and hereby orders that the City proceed with the construction of said work by day labor, under the supervision of the Superintendent of the Water'Department and the City Engineer, using its own equipment and purchasing its own materials therefor. This City Council.further•hereby finds and declares that the bidders hereinafter mentioned are the lowest, regular, responsible bidders for the respective items listed under the names of said respective bidders for furnishing of materials re- quired for the construction of the aforesaid work, and hereby awards the contract therefor to the said bidders hereinafter mentioned at the following prices, to-yuit: To the Southern Pipe and Casing Company, all of the following items: ITEM PRICE 1. For 6" dia. double disc gate valve, each - - - - - - 32.08 To the Howard Supply Company all of the following items: 14-B For Dayton couplings for 6" dia. pipe, each - - - - - 3.96 14-A For If it If 3" " it It - - - - - 1.84 14-0 For " " If 10" It"" If - - - - - 5.22 17-A For 4" x 24" machine bolts, each - - - - - - - - - - 6.0741 17-B For 7/8" x 3" If" " - - - - - - - - - - 0.1115 To the Crane Company all of the following items: 15-A For gaskets for 12" pipe and fittings, each - - - - - 0.576 15-B For " " 6" ° ItIf it - - - - - 0.208 AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all other bids or proposals submitted are hereby rejected, and the City Council declares and. determines that in its opinion the materials and/or equipment of other items for which bids were submitted may be purchased at a lower price in the open market and that it is to the best interests of the City to do so. Said City Council also declares and determines that items for which bids were not received may be purchased in the open market at advantageous costs to the City, and hereby authorizes and orders the Superintendent of the Water Department to do so. The City Clerk is.hereby directed and authorized to return all certified or cashier's checks which were attached to the proposals of the unsuccessful bidders, but to retain all such checks submitted by the successful bidders herein mentioned except the checks of the Howard Supply Company and the Crane Company which shall be returned for the reason that the total amount of the bid on items awarded to these firms is less than $50.00. The checks of the Southern Pipe and Casing Company and the Rensselaer Valve Company shall be held until the material has been delivered to and accepted by the City, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all of said awards herein made are subject to the approval of said construction by the U. S. War Production Board,and the issuance of priorities for the purchase of said materials,, and in the event that such approval is not received, the'h'the awards herein made shall be null and'void, and without -2- effect or binding upon the City of Azusa.
