HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3205RESOLUTION NO. 3205 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL, CITY OF AZUSS , COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, RECOGNIZING A SERIOUS TRAFFIC PROBLEM ON AZUSA AVENUE, A STATE HIGHWAY, IMPORTANT TO THE CITY OF AZUSA , THE EAST SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, AND THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR WHICH AN IMMEDIATE SOLUTION IS REQUESTED, NAMELY, THE WIDENING AND PAVING OF AZUSA AVENUE BETWEEN THE SAN BERNARDINO FREEWAY, A STATE FREEWAY, AND U.S. HIGHWAY NO. 66, IN THE EAST SAN GABRIEL VALLEY,. COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, Azusa Avenue is a State Highway connecting the San Bernardino Freeway to U. S. Highway No. 66 in the East San Gabriel Valley of the County of Los Angeles, State of California; and WHEREAS, the sudden development of land subdivisions has produced a phenomenal growth of population with a resultant phenomenal increase in traffic congestion in this area; and WHEREAS, Azusa Avenue has an insufficient roadway width to serve the present traffic loads as indicated by the traffic congestion on said thoroughfare; and WHEREAS, the East San Gabriel Valley is continuing to increase in popu- lation at a most rapid rate; and WHEREAS, there are no other existing highways developed in the East San Gabriel Valley to relieve the traffic load on Azusa Avenue and the deficiency of highways in said Valley will exist for a considerable period of time in the future; and WHEREAS, the cities of the East San Gabriel Valley have carefully studied this problem and have agreed upon the urgency of this problem. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the State of California, De- RESOLUTION NO. cont'd -2- partment of Public Works be and it is hereby respectfully requested to recommend, and the State Highway Commission authorize, the immediate expenditure of the necessary funds to widen and improve Azusa Avenue to a standard four -lane highway from U. S. Highway No. 66 to the San Bernar- dino Freeway at the earliest possible date.
