HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 33281 RESOLUTION N0, 3328 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF 3 CALIFORNIA, TO THE STATE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS AND THE'HIGHI•IAY COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF 4 CALIFORNIA RELATING TO THE PROPOSED PLAN OF IMPROVEMENTS FOR STATE HIGHWAY ROUTE 5 NUMBER 62 WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF AZUSA. 6 7 Whereas, the State Division, of Highways has determined that 8 it is in the public interest to improve the existing State 9 Highway Route No. 62 in order to serve anticipated traffic 10 requirements in the rapidly growing area traversed by this route, and 11 Whereas, the State Division of Highways has presented certain 12 proposals relating to the nature of the required improvements, and 13 Whereas, the City Planning Commission and the City Council 14 has conducted Public Hearings,at which all persons interested in 15 this situation were given an opportunity to present their opinions 16 relating to the proposed improvement plans, and, 17 Whereas, the Planning Commission unanimously recommended to 18 the City Council that the alternate proposal providing for one-way 19 traffic in each direction on Azusa Avenue and San Gabriel Avenue, 20 north bound on Azusa, south bound on San Gabriel, be approved by 21 the City Council and -recommended to the State authorities 22 Now, therefore; be it resolved that the City Council accepts 23 the Planning Commissionh Recommendation and recommends to the 24 State Division of Highways and the California State Highway 25 Commission that the plans calling for one-way traffic north bound 26 on Azusa Avenue and one-way traffic south bound on San Gabriel 27 Avenue with d junction just north of Sierra Madre Boulevard at the 28 north end and just north of First Street at the south end, as' 29 indicated on plansr,presented to the Council by the Division of 30 Highways be adopted as the route for Highway 62 within the City 31 of Azusa. 32 In making this recommendation, the City Council is of the -1- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30, -- 31 32 opinion that it is imperative that the widening of Azusa Avenue between First Street and Fourth Street to a width between curbs of fifty-six feet (56t) is an essential part of the workable plan and will be included as part of the construction work. The City Council also wishes to bring to the attention of the State authorities, the necessity for incorporating the foll matters into their plans relating to the proposed improvements: 1. Lowering the present excessive crown on Azusa Avenue between First Street and Fourth Street. 2. Providing an access road between Azusa Avenue and San Gabriel Avenue on the alighment of Twelfth Street to provide adequat access to the residents -on San Gabriel Avenue north of Eleventh Street. 3. That existing paving on San Gabriel Avenue be replaced with new paving adequate to meet the State Highway specification. 4. That the street lighting to be provided be integrated into the street lighting program currently underway by the City of Azusa. 5. That the existing drainage structure in the east side of the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Foothill Boulevard be replaced. 6. That adequate consideration be given to necessary traffic control and safety devices Be it further resolved that the State Division of Highways and the State Highway.Commission are hereby petitioned by the City Council of the City of Azusa to make a study of the future routing of a highway on the Irwindale Avenue route to the west of the City to extend northerly to a junction with Route 62 at the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon to be adopted at such time as Route 62 shall be completed over the mountains to the Antelope Valley.
