HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - May 2, 1927 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MAY 2, 1927. 7:30 P.M. The Board of Trustees of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Trustees: Howard, Beck, Meier, Durrell, City Clerk. Absent: Trustee: Chenovieth, City Attorney. A communication from Mrs Bradshaw asking that the exclusive right of selling fire works on July 2nd, 3rd and 4th be granted to the American Legion Auxiliary was temporarily laid on the table. Moved by Trustee Meier, seconded by Trustee Howard and carried that the letter from the Glendora Consilidated Mutual Irrigating Company be laid over for further consideration. A communication from Miss Barnes in regard to the entering into a con- tract with the Burroughs Company for the upkeep of the billing machine in Light and Water Department for :48.40 per annum was, on motion by Trustee Howard, seconded by Trustee Meier re- ferred to the Board of Public Works. The offer of Mrs. Walters to sell the City of Azusa twenty-four shares of water stock in the Agricultural Water Company was, on motion by Trustee Beck seconded by Trustee Meier laid on the table. Moved by Trustee Beck, seconded by Trustee Meier that the request of Mrs. Showalter to cut a driveway at #933 Pasadena Avenue be granted. The work to be done under the supervision of the Superintendent of Streets. Carried by the following vote of the Board: Ayes: Trustees: Howard, Beck, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Moved by Trustee Beck, seconded by Trustee Howard that the request of George Knight to cut the curb at #132 West Center Street be granted. The work to be done under the super- vision of the Superintendent of Streets. Carried by the following vote of the Board: Ayes: Trustees: Howard, Beck, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Trustee Chenoweth, seconded by Trustee Meier that the request of Mrs. E. A. Warren to cut the curb at Mrs. Bradshaw's request temporarily laid on the table. Letter from Glendora Consolidated Mutual Irrigating Company laid over. Contract with Burroughs Company referred to the Public Works Committee. Pairs. Walters' offer laid on table. Mrs. Showalter granted permission to cut curb. George Knight granted permission to cut curb. The minutes of the regular adjourned meetings of April 11th at 7:30 P. M. ' and April 14th, also the minutes of the regular meeting of April 18, 1927 were read and approved as read. Trustee: Chenoweth and City Attorney entered during the reading of the minutes and took their seats. A communication from the Canyon City Post No. 180 denying responsibility with regard to the circulating of the petition for a recall was read and ordered placed on file. A letter, together with a bill for X425.00 was presented from Pair. ''Withey, Architect. Moved by Trustee: Howard, seconded by Trustee Beck and carried that the City Attorney prepare a letter in answer,to be signed by the President of the Board and the City Clerk. Moved by Trustee Beck, seconded by Trustee Meier that Towel Service for the Municipal Buildings be obtained from the Azusa Laundry until further notice. The matter of the insurance of the Kimball Truck was referred to the Finance Committee to be reported on at the next meeting. Moved by Trustee Howard, seconded by Trustee Meier that the offer of Mr. Pernel Barnett to sell the City a twenty-five gallon tar kettle for $150.00 be referred to the Board of Public Works. Carried by the following vote of the Board: Ayes: Trustees: Howard, Beck, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Trustee Beck, seconded by Trustee Howard that the matter of purchasing a Royal Typewriter be referred to the Purchasing Committee. The City Clerk reported that he had obtained options on five lots in Block 30 in the City of Azusa. He also read letters regarding the purchase of lots from E. S. Montgomery, R. B. Bidwell and A. P. Larson. Mr. Larson was present later in the evening and expressed his willingness to accept the price offered for Lot 37, Block 30, subject to an agree- ment to be drawn up by the City Attorney. The City Clerk reported that the Sunset :venue assessment was ready for filing and he wished to set a day for a hear- ing not less than fifteen days after the first publication in the Azusa Journal, which will be May 4, 1927. Moved by Trustee Howard, seconded by Trustee Beck that the Board meet in special session on Friday, May 20th, 1927 for the hearing of this matter. Carried by the following vote of the Board: Ayes: Trustees: Howard, Beck, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Trustee Howard, seconded by Trustee Meier and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPROVING AND ' ADOPTING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF SECOND STREP;T IN THE CITY OF AZUSA. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Trustee Howard, seconded by Trustee Beck that this resolution be adopted as read and be numbered Resolu- tion No. 983. Moved by Trustee Howard, seconded by Trustee Beck and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND A MAP OF ASSESSMENT DISTRICT FOR THE IMPROVEPi!ENT OF SOLDANO AVENUE IN THE CITY OF AZUSA." be read. ADOPTED. 12 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD MAY 21 1927. The City Engineer presented the following report which was on motion duly carried, accepted and placed on file. May 2, 1927. The Honorable Board of Trustees of the City of Azusa Gentlemen: The City Engineer wishes to report that after having carefully examined all bids and bonds referred to him for checking that Mr. A. L. MEIER is the lowest bidder for the work to be done as described in Resolution of Intention No. 955. Respectfully submitted, C. L. NICHOLS City Engineer.
