HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - September 26, 1927 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1927 The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman: Howard, The City Clerk presented a letter from Mrs Hillstrom asking the Council whether they would sell ' seventy-five chairs. Moved by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Chenoweth that she be offered seventy-five chairs at $1.00 each. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Howard. A communication was read from the Board of Supervisors informing the Cit Council that an appropriation of 24,000.00 had been made for the improvement of Azusa Avenue. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Chenoweth that the City Clerk be instructed to write to the Board of Supervisors thanking them for the appropriation. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, ' Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Howard. Moved by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Meier and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ACCEPTING DEED TO LOT 26 AND ONE-HALF OF VACATED ALLEY ADJOINING ON THE EAST OF SAID LOT ALL IN BLOCK 30, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF SAID CITY AND THE CITY CLERK THEREOF TO DRAW WARRANTS FOR THE BALANCE OF THE PURCHASE PRICE OF SAID LOT. bd read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Chenoweth, seconded by Councilman Martin that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered resolu- tion No. 1036. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Cheno- weth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Howard. ' Moved by Councilman Chenoweth, second- ed by Councilman Meier that the con- tract of H. F. Jones for construction of a City Hall in the City of Azusa in form as prepared by the architect be accepted by the City. The Mayor and City Clerk be and they are hereby authorized to execute two copies of the said contract for and in behalf of the said City when the changes required have been made in said contract and in the bond and when the City Clerk has ascertain- ed that the Surety Company on the Con- tractor's bond is a Surety Company of 139 7:30 P.M. Mrs. Hillstrom offered chairs for $1.00 each. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors appropriated $p24,000.00 for improvement of Azusa Avenue and bridge over Little Dalton Wash. RESOLUTION NO. 1036 ADOPTED. Contract for construction of new City Hall to be signed and approved. MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING HELD SEPTEMBER 26, 1927 good standing and whose bonds are accepted by the Courts. The said contract and the said bond, as changed, to be approved by the City Attorney before the said contract is executed by the Mayor and City Clerk. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Howard. ' Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Chenoweth that a war- rant be drawn in favor of Richard M. Bates for $872.10, making 11/20 of the purchase price of City Hall received by him to date. The same to be delivered when the contract is signed. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Homes: None. Absent: Councilman: Howard. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Chenoweth and carried that City Engineer, Nichols prepare a contract for the work to be done on Azusa Avenue. Moved by Councilman Chenoweth, second- ed by Councilman Martin and carried that the Board of Public Works be instructed to look into the matter ' of the purchase of a truck for the Water and Light Department and re- port at the next meeting. At this point City Attorney, Thomas A. Berkebile submitted his resignation as City Attorney to take effect October 1, 1927. Moved by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Meier and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA CONFIRMING COM- PENSATION DUE THOMAS A. BERKEBILE UNDER AND BY VIRTUE OF HIS EMPLOYMENT UNDER RESOLUTION NO. 947, DULY ADOPT- ED AND APPROVED ON THE 19Th DAY OF JANUARY, 1927. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Chenoweth, second- ed by Councilman Martin that this ' resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1037. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Cheno- weth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Howard. Moved by Councilman Martin, seconded. by Councilman Chenoweth and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ACCEPTING THE RESIGNATION OF THOMAS A. BERKEBILE AS CITY ATTORNEY OF T'HE CITY OF AZUSA, EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1ST; 1927. 7:30 P.M. .141 Richard M. Bates allowed $872.10 which is 11/20 of purchase price of City Hall. City Engineer instructed to prepare contract for Azusa Avenue. Matter of purchase of Truck for Water & Light Department referred to Board of Public Works. Thomas A. Berkebile re- signs as City Attorney. RESOLUTION NO. 10362 ADOPTED. RESOLUTION NO. 1037 ADOPTED. 142 MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING HELD be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Chenoweth, seconded by Councilman Meier that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1038. A letter was read from the City Attorney, Thomas A Berkebile with regard to the substitution of attorneys in Case No. 227932 in the Superior Court of the State of California. Moved by Councilman Martin, seconded by Meier that the City Council ap- prove the recommendation and authorize the Mayor to sign the same for, and in behalf, of the City of Azusa. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Martin, Meier, Cheno- weth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Martin that the bill of Thomas A. Berkebile for $258.35 be allowed.
