Present at roll call: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell and City Clerk. Absent: City Attorney. The minutes of the last regular meet-. ing of October 17, 1927 were read G( and approved as read. ' A -letter from F. M. Strang was protesting upon the placing of read the Electric light at the corner of Fifth and Alameda Streets,twenty feet from the corner of Fifth Street. After Mr. Strang had addressed the Council the matter was libd on the table,as the protest was made after date for the hearing of the same. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Martin that the request of Walter Lovelace for a two weeks vacation commencing November 10th, be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Martin that a telephone be in- stalled in the home of the Street Super- intendent, Mr. Wolfe. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, bleier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Martin, Seconded by Councilman Meier that the Firm of Thomas & Moore be appointed Auditors for the fiscal year 1927-1928 at the figure as previously agreed upon, namely Six - hundred Dollars ($600.00) per year. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter, enclosing a bill for $533.63, from Richard id. Bates, Jr. was read and on motion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Chenoweth and duly carried was laid on the table. The City Clerk reported that he had re- ceibed one bid for the street work on Alameda, Dalton and Santa Fe Avenues. Moved by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Howard that the bid be now opened, examined and publicly declared. A. L. METER 7:30 P.M. 159 A communication from Mr. Strang was read and ordered placed on the table. Walter Lovelace granted two weeks vacation. A. Wolfe, Street Superin- tendent to have telephone in his home. Thomas & Moore appointed Auditors for the fiscal year 1927-1928. Letter from R. M. Bates laid on table. I I MINUTES OF REGULAR TIEETING HELD NOVEMBER 7, 1927. Moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Martin that the bid be referred to the City Engineer for Checking to be reported on later in the evening. The City Clerk stated that he had re- ceived one bid for the purchase of Lot 12, Block 5 in the City of :Azusa and one bid for the purchase of the old reservoir site containing 2.33 acresmore or less. ' on motion made by councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Chenoweth these bids were opened and publicly declared. Moved by Councilman Meier, seconded by Councilman Howard that the bid of C. E. Williams of 53,150.00 for the "old reservoir site" be laid on the table. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Meier that the bid sub- mitted by the Woman's Club of $1,900.00 for the purchase of Lot 12 in Block 5 in the City of Azusa. be accepted sub- ject to the restrictions embodied in the advertisement for bids. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: NRne. Absent: None. Letters from the Azusa Improvement Co. and R. C. Clapp protesting the dumping of rocks on the lots on Paramount Heights Tract, by Contractor Peck, were read. On motion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Councilman Howard and duly carried this matter was laid over until the nextmeeting of the Council in order to give the Councilmen an opportunity to visit the Tract and to note the condition of same. Contractor Peck asked for an extention of time of thirty days on his contract for work in Paramount Heights Tract. Moved by Councilman Chenoweth, seconded by Councilman Martin that the extension of time be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: One. A communication having been read from the Azusa Herald it was moved by Co,4ncil- man Meier, seconded by Councilman Cheno- weth that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for the City's printing for the year 1928. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Correll. Noes: None. Absent: None. 7:30 P.M. 64 City Clerk announced that he had received one bid for Lot 12, Block 5 and one bid for the "old reservoir site" C. E. Williams' bid laid on table. The bid offered by the Women's Club accepted. Letters from Azusa Improve- ment Company and R. C. Clapp laid over until next meeting Contractor Peck granted thirty days extension of time. The City Attorney entered the Council Chamber and took his seat during the reading of the minutes. The City Engineer submitted the following report: November 7, 1927 The Honorable City Council City of Azusa Gentlemen: The City Engineer wishes to report that after having examined all bids and bonds that is the lowest bidder. NICHOLS City Engineer 7:30 P. if . 1 43 3 The City Clerk reported that this is the day, hour and place when and where any and all protests against the assessment for the improvement of Orange, Sunset, Angeleno Avenues and Vista Bonita and Eleventh Streets as described under Resolution of Intention No. 995, be heard. The City Clerk further recorded that no written protests or objections had been filed with him up to the hour of 7:30 P. M., November 7, 1927. The Mayor then asked if any person present de- sired to be heard in the matter. No person appear- ing before said Council the Mayor declared that said Council had authority to confirm the assessment. On motion of Councilman Howard, Seconded by Council- man Meier and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPROVING THE PROCEEDINGS AND CONFIRMING THE ASSESS- MENT AND DIAGRAM FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ORANGE, SUNSET, ANGELETv'0 AVENUES, ELEVENTH AND VISTA BONITA STREETS AS DESCRIBED IN RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 995 AND ORDERING THE STREET SUPER- INTENDENT TO DRAW THE WARRANT. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Meier that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1045. Carried by the following vote of the Council: RESOLUTION NO. 1045 ADOPTED. Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None.
