Present at roll call: Councilmen: Howard, Martin, ':Teier, Chenoweth, Durrell, City :attorney and Cit;; Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of December 5, 102" v.,, -,s read and approved as read. A communication was read from the Azusa Irrigating Company asking permission to lay pipe lines on Dalton Avenue from Eleventh to Tenth Street and on Tenth Street to the Foothill property on the east side of the old Ice Plant. On motion by Councilman Meier seconded by Council- man Martin this per-iission was grant- ed by the folloviing vote of the Council: Request of Azusa Irrigating Co. to lay pipe was granted. Ayes: Councilman: Howard, Lr:artin, 'ir!eier, Chenoweth, D;zrrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. The application of :1. Snyder for the office of Janitor in the new City Hall Application made by A. Snyder was,on motion by Councilman. Martin, for Janitor in City Hall seconded by Councilman %.'eier and duly laid on table. carried laid on the table. A 'Xmas card from i'r. and Mrs 1N. A. 'Xmas card read. Johnson wishing the Council a happy 'Xmas was read and appreciated. ' A request by V. D. Smith, employed it the 'Nater Departr:lent, for a rise in salary was on motion by Councilman Request of V. D. Smith for Martin, seconded by Councilman Meier increase in salary refused and duly carried, laid on the table. The City Clerk reported that he had received four bids in answer to the advertisement asking for sealed bids for a one and one-half ton truck for use in the ':'later an,] Light Department. Moved by Councilman 1dartin, seconded by Councilman Howard that the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Bids for one and one-half ton truck opened, examined and publicly declared. Ayes: Councilmen: Howard, L.°artin, LLeier, Chenoweth, Durrell. noes: None. M.1 The City Clerk reported that he had received two bids in answer to the advertisement for the City printing for the year 1928. Moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman I+Iartin that the bids be nft opened, examined and publicly declared. The Pomotropic Company --3V an inch .first tithe, 25/ after first time. The Herald Company -- 50;? an inch first time, 35(/ after first time. Moved by Councilman 3oward, seconded by Councilman Meier and duly carried that the bids be referred to the Purchasing Committee, with nower to act. A communication from ieir. Barr to the Elliott & Horne Company with regard to the purchase of a strip of land, 630 feet long more or less, having been read, it was moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman 11lartin that the City Clerk be instructed to write thanking Elliott & Horne Company for their courtesy but refusing the offer for the purche.se at the present time. Carried by the following vote of t he Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Ho-:vard, Iaiartin, Meier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: N„ne. Absent: None. Prioved by Councilman Chenoweth, seconded by Councilman Howard and unanimously ' carried that the Liayor be given a poser of attorney to act for the City at the meeting of the Argicultural ';,.,a ter Comr.any to be held on January 3, 19?.8. An affidavit from C. V. Showalter showing that he had paid taxes on his personal property both in Glendora and Azusa having been presented, it .ras moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Meier that a refund be $5.64 be granted to the ap- plicant. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilman: Howard, Martin, •sleier, Chenoweth, Durrell. Noes: None. Absent: None. George Meier informed the Council that the Azusa Theatre Company expected to spend D200.00 on decoraLing the City of Azusa the niht of the opening of the new Theatre and asked the Council for an appropriation of ':;:100.00 of the 6200.00. Moved by Councilman Howard, that this re- quest be granted. The motion was lost for lack of a second. It was unanimously decided to allow the placing of a banner across the street by the Azusa Theatre Company. The City Clerk reports that this is the day, time and place for the hearing of protests for the issuance of bonds for the unpaid assessment list for the improve- ment of Crescent Drive. The City Clerk further reports that no protests have been read up to the hour of 7:30 P.I.I. of December 19, 1927. after a communication regarding a strip of land on Crescent Drive eras read, the Council instructed the City Clerk that they did not wish to sell this land. No protestants appeared.
