HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - May 14, 1928 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, MAY 14, 1928. The City Council of the City of Azusa. met in adjourned session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Smith, Dilley, Howard, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilmen: Durrell, Martin. The City Clerk reported that all of the election returns had been received in his office for the Municipal Recall Election held in the City of Azusa on the 8th day of May, 19289 were then and had been in his possession in the envelopes containing them, in the same condition as when received, and the said Clerk presented said returns to the City Council at this meeting. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that the Council proceed forthwith to canvass said returns. The motion was adopted by the following_ vote: Ayes: Councilmen: Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Durrell, Martin. The City Council thereupon proceeded to canvass the returns. The Canvassing having been completed and each member of .the City Council having separately reported that he had computed the returns of the said recall election held on the said 8th day of May, 1928, it was moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith and unanimously carried that the following entitled resolution: 7:30 P. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TIT CITY OF AZUSA DECLARING THE VOTE CAST FOR AND AGAINST ALL PROPOSITIONS AND CANDID".TES AT TAI: SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE SAID CITY ON THE STH DAY OF MAY, 1928, AND DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE VOTE OF SAID ELECTION AND TID: RESULT OF TIS, CANVASS OF THE VOTES CAST P.T SAID ELECTION. The City Council of the City of Azusa do resolve as follows: WHEREAS, a special municipal election was held and con- ducted in the City of Azusa on Tuesday, the 8th day of May, 1928, in accordance with Resolution number 1084 duly adopted and approved on the 2nd day of April, 1928 and in the manner required by law; WHEREAS, the City Council of the said city met in the Council Chamber of said Council on Monday, the 14th day of May, 1928, at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P. M. to canvass the returns of said election and ds d then and there canvass the returns thereof, as a result of which the Council finds that the number of votes cast for the respective candidates and others and other matters required by law to be as hereinafter stated: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows; That said special municipal election was held and conducted in the City of Azusa, California, on Tuesday, the 8th day of May, 1928, at the time and in the manner required by law; That the whole number of votes cast at said election in said city was Nine Hundred and Ten (910); That the number of votes cash for the recall of Moses T. Durrell, incumbent Councilman of the City of Azusa and the votes cast for the candidate running against said Councilman are as follows: 292 IdINUTES OF ADJOURNED METING HELD MAY 14, 1928. 7:30 P.M. Martin, incumbent Councilman of the Uity of Azusa and the votes cast for the candidate running against said Councilman are as follows: For the recall of Roy E. Martin 535 Against the recall of Roy E. Martin 308 For Fred C. Stone for Councilman 533 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that by the virtue of the vote cast at said special municipal election Councilman Moses T. Durrell and Councilman Roy E. Martin were recalled, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that by virtue of the vote cast at said special municipal election Rollin B. Demmitt and Fred C. Stone were duly elected Councilman of the City of Azusa to fill the vacancy created by the said recall of the said Councilmen Durrell and Martin. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on the 14th day of May, 1928, by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Smith, Dilley, Howard, .3mttt,atbme: Noes; None. Demmitt elected to fill the glace of hooses T. Durrell and Fred C. Stone elected to fill the place of Roy E. Martin. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Council- man Dilley that the City Clerk lead in prayer for the guidance of God in the undertakings of the City Council. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Council- man Smith and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, DECLARING TJ -D', OFFICE OF BUIT,DING IN- SPECTOR VACANT. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Council- man Smith that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1092. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Morton to cut the curb at 922 San Gabriel Ave. r s, on motion by Councilman Smtth, seconded by Councilman Dilley and duly carried, granted. 7:30 P.".. 295 RESOLUTION NO. 1093 ADOPTED. The application of Frank Roberts and Dakid H. Clark for the position of janitor were, on motion by Councilmen Dilley, seconded by Council- man Smith and duly carried, laid on the table. Numerious applications for the position of assistant at the Plunge were ordered placed on file. A statement from Paul Kressley for 83511.17, was on motion by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Dilley and duly carried laid over until the Council had had time to investi- gate the same. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Council- man Dilley that the Mayor and ' City Clerk be empowered to sign a check for �b500'.00 due the Usonia Iron 'sNorks for ,jail equipment, and that the payment of the full amount of the contract be referred to the Board of Public Works, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes:: None. Absent: None. After some discussion on the matter of the purchase of a new pump it was moved by Council- man Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Smith that the City Clerk be authorized to advertise for bids for the same and that the matter of laying a pipe line from the wells bought from the Contract Water Company to the City Well No. 2, be referred to the Board of Public Works with power to a ct. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen:Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard, Noes: None. Absent: None. An application for permission to use the Com- munity House for dancing lessons, was referred to the Police Committee with power to act. ' A request from the Union Oil Company for part of the City's business was referred -to -the Purchasing Committee. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Council- man Demmitt and unaninousi.y carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF T:'.E CITY OF AZUSA ACCEPTING DEI,:D TO LOT TWENTY-THREE (23) AND ONE-HALF (1) VACATED ALLEY ADJOINING ON THE EAST OF Si,ID IAT ALL IN BLOCK THIRTY (30) AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, AND AUTHORIZING THE T'?AYOR OF SAID CITY AND `i'IE' CITY CLERK THEREOF TO DRAW WARRANT FOR THE PURCHASE PRICE OF SAID LOT. be read.
