The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above
time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
Demmitt, Store, Smith, Dilley, Howard,
City Attorney andCity Cleric.
The minutes of the last regular meeting
of May 21st and of the adjourned meetings
of May 24th and 28th, 1928 wer.o read and
approved as rend.
' A letter from the Chamber of Commerce
inviting the City Council to meet with
them on `Nednesday, June 6, 1928, was
read. Moved by Councilman Dilley, second-
ed by Councilman Smith that the Council
attend the meeting in a body.
Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by
Councilman Stone that Wm. J. Holden be
granted permission to cut the curb at
his home on the corner of Orange and
Eleventh Sts, the work to be done under
the supervision of the Park Superintendent.
Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by
Councilman Dilley that the insurance ori
the Seagrave engine and Kimball truck be
allowed.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith,
Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None.
The request of i.. }'. Alger for a taxi
' franchise was ordered placed on file.
The request, of J. L. Perez to erect a
building on the south end of Lot l.,
Blocic 39 in the City of 4zusa was,
on motion by Councilman Smith, second-
ed by Councilmnn Dilley referred to
the Planning Commission.
The matter of a Sprinkling System to
be installed in both the City Parks
was introduced by Park Superintendent,
Morgan and on motion by Councilman
Smith, seconded by Councilman Dilley
was referred to the Board of Public
t"forks to be reported on at the next
meeting of the Council.
Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded
by Councilman Demmitt that the bid
of the Automatic Tension Screen Company
for the sixteen (16) screens for the
City offic€s of the City Hall Building
be accepted, subject to a contract ap-
proved of by the City Attorney.
Carried by the follo-ing vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith,
Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Smith, Seconded by
Councilman Stone that the further hear-
ing of protests on .Azusa Avenue be laid
over until the next regular meeting on
June 18, 1928.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith,
Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None.

The City Engineer presented the
following letter.
June 4, 1928.
The Honorable City Council
of the City of Azusa, Calif.
Gentlemen:
The petition for the removal of trees on Azusa Avemie
carried forty and six tenths n_er cent of the frontage. A total,
of four hundred feet out of a possi.blr, nine hundred eig-hty-five
feet of the frontage of the block between Eighth Street and
Ninth Street upon Azusa Avenue.

Mr. P. M. Russell addressed the Council
asking for an increase in salary for
collecting the city refuse. The con-
sideration of this matter was deferred
until June 18, 1928.
Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded
by Councilman Stone that Robert Kennedy
be allowed 3.00 extra for the signs
placed on the City Hall.
Carried by the following vote of the
Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith,
Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None.
The City Clerk reported that this is the
day hour and place when and where any and
' all protests against the nropsed bond issue
for the improvement of Santa Fe and Dalton
Avenues as described under Resolution of
Intention Np. 1031, be heard.
The City Clerk further recorded that no
written protest or objections had been
filed with him un to the hour of 7:30
June 4, 1928.
The Mayor then asked if any person present

the issuance of bonds for the im.-
provement of Santa Fe and Dalton.
Avenues.
The Board of Public Works was in-
structed by the Mayor to make enquires
concerning chairs and: carpet for the
Auditorium in the new City Mall Build-
ing and to rep -rt at the next regular
meeting on June 16, 1828.
Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded
' by Councilman Dilley and duly carried
that the remedying of all defects in
the new City Hall Building be under
the supervision of the Superintendent
of Light and Water.

The Mayor appointed Councilmen: Smith
and Stone a committee to enquire into
the matter of overcharge in printing
in the Azusa Journal.
