HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 18, 1928 - CCAZUSA, CALIFORNIA, CITY HALL, MONDAY, JUNE 18, 1928. 7:30 P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of June 4th and of the Special Meeting of June 7, 1928 were read and approved as read. ' A petition from some of the contractors of the City asking for a Contractor's license was ordered placed on file. A petition from the bakers of the City asking for a Baker's Peddling License was ordered placed on file. The request of C. C. Kimbrel for a two weeks vacation, commencing July 16, 1928 was presented. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Stone that the re- quest be granted with pay. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith and duly carried that the request of D. I. Nofziger to lay a pipe across Pasadena Avenue, be granted provided that the hole for the same is bored and the work done under the super- vision of the Street Superintendent. 3327 Contractor's petition placed on file. Baker's petition placed on file. C. C. Kimbrell granted two weeks vacation with pay. Nofziger granted permis- sion to lay pipe. ' Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone and duly carried that J. D. Lund granted per - the request of John D. Lund to out the mission to cut curb. curb and move an electric light pole at #441 Soldano Avenue be granted, the work to be done under the supervision of the Super- intendent of Streets and Supt. of Light &.Water. The request of C. E. Littleton to cut the curb at #925 Orange Avenue was, on motion by Councilman Dilley, seconded C. E. Littleton granted by Councilman Demmitt and duly carried permission to cut curb. granted. The request of Mr. Strong to cut the curb at the cor. of Tenth and Dalton Avenue was, on motion by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smtth and duly carried referred to the Board of Public Works with power to act. Mr. Stonrg's request re- ferred to Board of Public Works. R. Kennedy and L. Moon's applications placed on file. RESOLUTION NO. 1104. ADOPTED. The application of R. Kennedy and Luetta Moon for position at the Slawson Plunge were ordered placed on file. ' Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DECLARING THE OFFICE OF BUILDING INSPECTOR VACANT AND APPOINTING L. M. KAUFFEY TO THAT OFFICE AND FIXING HIS SALARY OR COMPENSATION. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Smith, Seconded by Councilman Dilley that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution 1104. Mr. Stonrg's request re- ferred to Board of Public Works. R. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith and unanimously carried that an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 274 ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL ORDINANCE NO. 276 OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DECLARING A BUILDING ADOPTED. ' SETBACK LINE UPON THE PROPERTY FRONTING ON FIFTH STREET BETWEEN THE EASTERLY CITY BOUNDRY LINE AND ITS ,°TESTER?:Y TERMINATION" DULY APPROVED AND ADOPTED ON MARCH 5TH, 1928. be placed on its second reading. This ordinance was then read for the second time. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that this ordinance be passed as read and numbered Ordinance No. 276. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AUTHORIZING THE CITY TREASURER TO RETURN TO THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY ROAD DEPARTMENT FIFTY TFOUSAND DOLLARS ($50,000.00) RESOLUTION NO. 1105 THE SUM APPROPRIATED TO THE CITY OF AZUSA ADOPTED. FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF FOOTHILL BOULEVARD IN SAID CITY. ' be read. THIS resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Dilley and unanimously carried that an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THlF CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON ORDINANCE READ FOR AND USES OF STREETS AND PROVIDING A FIRST TIME. PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. be placed upon its first reading. This ordinance was then read for the first time. ' Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone that the pity Clerk be $480.00 to be paid instructed to pay X480.00 interest due to Contract Water Co. on the contract for the wells of the Contract Water Company. The following to be mailed to Mr. Rogers, sec. of the Contract Water Company: You areadvised that the City Council last evening on motion duly made and carried allowed your bill for interest due on the contract for wells, but the motion was restricted by the proviso that the payment is not to be.considered as an acceptance of the wells by the Uouncil for the reason that it is their intent to test these wells during the coming summer and if the wells are not as represent- ed at the time of the purchase, the contract will. be set aside. In other words the act of the Council in paying this is not to be considered by you as approval or in confirming r a the contract by the Council. A bill from the City Engineer, Nichols for $550.00 for work done on Azusa Avenue City Engineer's bill was presented. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone that $861.00 be paid to City Clerk instructed the Usonia Iron Works as per their contract; to pay Usonia Iron x$30.00 of this amount to be paid to Charles Works $861.00. Bell as per the order of the Usonia Iron Works. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt. Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. The City Clerk was instructed to write the Sun Lighting Fixture Sun Lighting Fixture Company informing them Co. to be paid $$313.50 that if they would install flame tint globes in place of the present ones in the auditorium that the balance flue them, $313.50 would be paid. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Smith that the City Clerk be in- structed to write to Mr. C. 0. Broxon in- Mr. C. 0. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that the City Attorney be instructed to enquire into the legality of the "corner stone laying" of the new City Hall Building. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by ' Councilman Demmitt that the Cit purchase a 3/4 ton truck (Ford) for the ight and Water Department. The payments to be made as follows: $200.00 down, $200.00 in thirty days and the balance in sixty days. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt. Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Demmitt that the City pay $225.00 towards the expenses of Johnie Falcon's coach, Mr. Frair. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Smith that the City Clerk be instructed to purchase a vacuum cleaner from E. C. Pierce, for use in the new City Hall building. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPOINTING MACDONA.LD BONNER PLUNGE.SUPERINTENDENT AND FIXING HIS SALARY OR COMPENSATION. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Dilley that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered resolution No. 1108. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None.
