Present at roll call: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith,Dilley, Howard and City Clerk. Absent: City Attorney. The City Attorney entered the meeting during the reading of the minutes and took his seat. A communication from the Azusa Chamber of Commerce was read regarding a sewer system and was ordered placed on file. ' A communication was read from the Secretary of Chamber of Commerce asking the City Council to have the ground ground the "Booster" Sign, west of the City, beautified. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that the matter be referred to the Board of Public Works with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. R. M. Bates, Jr., architect for City Hall, submitted statement which was, by consent laid over until the next meeting. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that the bill of the Sun Lighting Fixture Company for $53.76 for exchange of lirht in the Auditorium, be allowdd. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes; Councilmen: Demmi_tt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Smith, s econded by Councilman Dilley that the request of Fred Mason to cut the curb at #1019 Sunset Ave. be granted. The work to be done under the supervision of the Street Superintendent. A letter was read from D. L. Eva -is, Sec. of the Azusa Citizen's Protective Assn. regarding the condition of the Ball Park. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that the matter be re- ferred to the Police and Sanitary Com- mittee. A communication from Dr. De Jarnette with regard to the inconvenience of the park- ing ordinance was on motion by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Demmitt and duly carried ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Stone, seconded by Councilman Demmitt and unanimously car- ried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AUTHORIZING THE PURCHiiSE OF LOTS 24 AND 25 IN BLOCK 30, CITY OF AZUSA, FROM E. E DILLEY AND THE PURCHASE OF LOTS 27,28,29,30, 31,32,33, 34 AND 35, BLOCK 30, CITY OF AZUSA FROM W. 0. STRESHLY FOR CITY PARK PURPOSES. be read. This resolution was then read. Request from Chamber of Commerce to beautify grounds near sign. Mr. Bate's bill laid over. Sun Lightin Fixture Co. to be paid 53.76. Fred Mason granted per- mission to cut curb. Condition of Ball Park referred to Board of Public Works. Communication from Dr. De Jarnette ordered placed on file. RESOLUTION NO. 1111 ADOPTED. 350 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD JULY 16, 1928. 7:30 P.M. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Demmitt that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1111. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Dilley not voting. A communication was read from C. 0. Broxon with regard to the printing for the City. On motion by Councilman Demmitt, seconded ' by Councilman Stone it was agreed that the matter be referred to the Council as a Committee of the Whole. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Los Angeles Desk Co. Angelus Roof Paper and Paint Co. A communication was read from Charles G. Adams addressed to the Planning Commission. Moved, seconded and duly carried that the same be placed on file. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone that the diagram of the ' Planning Commission as presented by F. S. Hayden, be accepted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absetn: None. On the invitation of the Mayor, Carol Aronovici addressed the Council on Planning, Zoning and laying out thoroughfares. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Dilley and unanimously carried that an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTANT HERE'hITH. be placed on its second reading. This ordinance was then read for the second time. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that this ordinance be adopted as read and numbered Ordinance No. 277. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Dilley that in the future all rock used by the City of Azusa be purchased from the Reliance Rock Company, except such as Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. The matter of Domingo Carlos being allowed to place a wooden covering across the.side- Diagram for City Park accepted. ORDINANCE NO. 277 ADOPTED. is advertised for bids under the law. 352 N MINUTES OF REGULAR IEETII+G I-FLD JULY 16, 1928. 7:30 P.M. 353 walk on Alameda Avenue was on motion by Councilman Smith,seconded by Councilman Stone referred to the Board of Public works. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Dilley that in the future the City Council will not allow anything in the way of uniforms etc. to be purchas- ed for the City employees without it first being brought before the City Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council; Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, ' Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Dilley that the City purchase a bellows from Mrs. J. Follows provided that it is in first class condition, to cost not more than $25.00. Carried bi, the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Smith that the City replace th sidewalk in front of the Bowman residence on Azusa Ave., it having been damaged in the removing of a tree, by the City. Carried by the follo-r.ing vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Demmitt, seconded by Councilman Smith that the City Council ap- point C. E. Postle as City Egnineer. The ' motion was lost by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Demmitt, Smith, Noes: Councilmen: Stone, Dilley, Howard. Absent: None. The matter of appointing an engineer was laid over until Tuesday, July 17, 1928 at 7:30 P.M. Moved by Councilman Demmitt,seconded by Councilman Dilley that the City Purchase a strip of land from the Pacific Electric Railway Co., 512 ft. by 20 $'0 30 ft.wide more or less running west of Angeleno Avenue on Crescent Drive. Carried btr the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Demmitt, Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Stone, seconded by Dilley and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROVIDING FOR THE TRANSFER OF EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS ($8000.00) FROM, ' THE ELECTRIC LIGHT FUND TO THE GENERAL FUND AND APPOINTING A CObiI:IITTEE OF THREE TO ADJUST CHARGES IN LIGHT FUND. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1112. Moved and carried that no more purchases can be made for uniforms etc without first gaining permission of the Council Agreed to purchase a bellows from Mrs. Follows City to repair sidewalk in front'of Mr. Bowman's property. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone and duly carried that the following bills be allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon the Treasury for the same.
