MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 1928, 7:30 P.M The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard, City Attorney, City Clerk.. Absent: Council- man Demmitt. The minutes of the last regular meet - ing of July 17th and of the Special Meeting of July 23rd were read and ap- proved as read. The reruest of Mrs. Stewart to out the curb at #x634 Dalton Avenue was, on motion by Councilman Dilley, Seco-ided by Councilman Stone all -owed, provided that she deposit $5.00 with the City Clerk, the balance of which is to be refunded to her after tl�e cost of in- spection by the Building Inspector has been deducted. The following financial statement was presented to the City Council:by the City Clerk: Mrs Stewart granted sion to out curb at 634 Dalton Avenue. Letter from Mr. Adams placed on file. A letter was read by the City Clerk from the Merchants National Bank ad- vising the City Council that the Bank released all fund due Mr. Richard 1.1. Bates, Jr. from the City of Azusa. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone that the City Council pay the money due Mr. Bates, after he had seen to the correction of certain faults and the placing of new fire hose in the City Hall Building. 361 �5) permis- Moved and carried to pay Mr. gates the amount due him provided he take care of details in City Hall. A letter was read from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce on the matter of Letter from Los Angeles Airplane License and was ordered acknow- Chamber of Commerce placed ledged and placed on file. on file. Moved by Councilman Lilley, seconded by Miss Barnes and Miss Goalby Councilman Stone that Miss Irene B. Barnes and Miss Laura Goalby be granted two weeks granted vacations with pay. vacation each, with pay. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. The Mayor announced the appointment of Councilmen: Dilley and Stone to inquire into the status of certain agricultural water company's shares. The matter of the awning placed across the sidewalk on Alameda Avenue by Domingo Carlos, was on motion by Councilman Dilley seconded by Councilman Smith and duly carried referred to the Building Inspector with power to act. Councilmen- Dilley and Stone appointed to inquire into status of water stock. Domingo Carlos to place awning under supervision of Building Inspector. 3o" MINUTES OF REGULAR II=T.NG HELD AUGUST 6, 1928. The Board of Public Works reported that the door of the Clinic was under construction. Idoved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Dilley that the sum of $300.00 be donated to the Chamber of Commerce to help defray the exnenses of the Azusa -:xhibit at the Pomona Fair. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Aves: Councilmen: Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. Moved by Councilman Dillev, seconded by Councilman Stone that 100.00 be donated by the City of Azusa to the Building Fund of the Boy Scouts Hall. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. 7:30 P. d. 367 $300.00 to be donated to Po7ona Fair. $100.00 to be donated to Boy SCOl7.t3. A bill for $550.00 for services on Azusa Avenue was presented by C. L. Nichols and on motion by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith the City Clerk was in- structed to ask Lir. Nichols for an itemized statement of the account. Mr. Nichols to submit Carried by the following vote of the itemized statement. Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Demmitt. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Stone that the Mayor and the City Clerk be instructed to sign the contract between the City of Azusa and the Currie Engineering Company. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Stone. Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. Mayor an,:l City Clerk instrue ed to sign contract with Currie Engineering Co. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that whereas the City Council of the City of Azusa at its meet- Mayor and City Clerk fin- ing on July 17, 1928, appointed Currie structed to sign contract Consolidated Engineering Company as with Heywood & Wakefield Co. engineers for said city subject to sign- ing a contract to be prepared b7 the City Attorney, as per terms agreed upon, and whereas a contract with said Currie Engineering Company is now before the Council Therefor be it resolved by the City Council that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized.and directed to sign said contract for and in behalf of the City and to place the seal of the City thereon. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that the Mayor and City Clerk be instructed to sign the contract between the City of Azusa and Heywood and Wakefield Company for seats in the Auditorium. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Stone, Smith, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Moved by Councilman. Dilley, seconded by Councilman Smith that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1114. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Smith, Stone, Dilley, Howard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Demmitt. Moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Dilley that the rent of the Community house be �p10.00 a month provided it is used for not more than four meetings a month and $5.00 for a single night the money to be paid to the City Clerk. Moved by Councilman Dilley, seconded ' by Councilman Stone that the following bills be allowed and warrants drawn upon the treasury for the same.
