HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - January 7, 1929 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. JANUARY 7, 1929. 7:30 P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Upon roll call, Councilman Demmitt arose and addressed the Council as Gentlemen and Mrs. Hynes as Deruty City Clerk or acting Clerk and remarked that he felt kindly toward the members of the Council and hoped they were his friends, but that he did not consider them legal Councilmen of the City of Azusa. He told the Council bhat if they did anything illegal that he would fight them and warned them to be very careful`. He also stated that in his opinion he is the only legal/Councilman of the City of Azusa and in- !_ as much as in his opinion there was not a quorum present he moved the'Co'uncil adjourn. Councilman Demmitt failed to answer to roll call 2nd immediately left -the Council Chamber. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Johndon, Mace, Muehe, Meier, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. The minutes of the last regular meeting of December 17th and of the Special Meeting of December 27, 1928 were read and approved as read. V_ After an explanation made by the Superinten- dent of Light and Water regarding an agree- ment with the Edison Company it was moved by Councilman Mace, seconded by Councilman Muehe that this matter be referred to the Auditing and Finance Committee. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Mace, Johnson, Muehe, Meier. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. Moved by Councilman Mace, seconded by Council- man Muehe that the matter of widening of Foot- hill Boulevard from Westerly City Limits to the Santa Fe Track's be deferred until the next meeting. Moved and carried that the matter of tax re- fund be referred to the City Attorney. The City Clerk presented two petitions filed in the Clerk's office for the recall of C. H. Howard and Elmer E. Dil.ley and stated that certificate was attached thereto. The City Attorney ruled that the said officials had resigned prior to the filing of the recall petitions and consequently are not subject to recall. Moved by Councilman Johnson, seconded by Councilman mace that these petitions be placed on1 file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Johnson, Mace, Muehe, Meier. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. ' The City Clerk was instructed to have all fees for Building permits deposited in Clerk's office and to draw a warrant once a month in favor of the Building Inspector for the amount of said fees. The City Clerk was instructed to pay to Mrs. May Smith, widow of the former City Clerk and City Assessor, his salary amounting to iJ'�200.00. Carried by the followings vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Johnson, Mace, Muehe, Meier. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. The City Clerk was instructed to write Haywood- wakefield, Barker Brothers and LosAngeles ,a -9 Matter of Edison Co. referred to Finance & Auditing Committee. Natter of widen- ing Foothill Blvd. Deferred. Tax refund refer- red to City At- torney. Petitions for re- call of E. E. Dil- ley and C. H. Howard placed on File. Fees for Bldg. After a communication from Dr. Furstman of the Health Department had been read it was moved by Councilman Mace, seconded by Councilman Johnson that the City At- torney be instructed to prepare an Ordinance requiring that all new food establishments in the City of Azusa be passed upon by the Health Department before being permitted to operate. City Clerk instructed to write concerning bills for Auditorium.
