Present at roll call: Councilmen: Johnson, Mace, Muehe, Meier, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. The minutes of the last regular meeting of January 7, 1929 were read. 7:30 P.M. 475 After a communication from L. Case was read it was moved by Councilman Muhhe, Seconded by City Clerk in- Councilman.Mace that the fire insurance policy structed to re - on the Azusa Public Library for '4000.00, be new Fire Insuranc referred to the City Clerk for checking. If on Library. found to be correct, the City Clerk was in- structed to renew same. A communication from F. D. Streshly was read. Moved by Councilman ?duehe, seconded by Council- F. D. Streshly's man Mace and duly carried that the matter of request referred ' building on an extra roon or two room apartment to Building In - at the rear of 718 Azusa Avenue,be referred to spector. the Building Inspector to report back at the next meeting. An application made by C. Richarte to operate C. Richarte's a pool room in the City of Azusa, wps on motion application duly carried laid on the table. laid on taIDle. An application offered by Clayton Clanin and William 0. Clanin to operate a bowling alley and pool room in this City was on motion by Clayton Clanin's Councilman Mueh, seconded by Councilman Mace application laid and duly carried, laid on the table. on t able. Moved by Councilman Muehe, seconded by Council- man Mace and duly carried that the following correction be made: Upon roll call, Councilman Demmitt arose and addressed the Council as Gentlemen and Mrs. Hynes as Deputy City Clerk or acting Clerk and remarked that he felt kindly toward the members of the Council and hoped they were his friends, but that he did not consider them legal Councilmen of the City of Azusa. He said that in view of the fact that this is a regular stated council meeting and the proper place for such meeting he acknowledged his presence at the meeting. He told the Council that if they did anything illegal O)At he would follow it to the end and warned them to be careful. he also stated that in his opinion he is the only legal qualified Councilman of the City of Azusa and inasmuch as it was im- possible to have a quorum he declared the meet- ing adjourned. Councilman Demmitt failed to answer to roll call and immediately left the Council Chamber. The minutes were approved as corrected. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Johnson, Mace, Muehe, Meier. ' Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Demmitt. Moved by Councilman Johnson, seconded RESOLUTION ADOPTED. by Councilman Mace and duly carried that the following Resolution be adopted. A RESOLUTION OF THE: CITY COUNCII. OF TP.E; CITY OF AZUSA, STATE OF CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS in the untimely and tragic death of our co-worker and friend, City Clerk, H. Robert Smith, we and the citiznes of Azusa have lost a fine citizen and an ef- ficient public servant, and WHEREAS our deceased brother H. Robert Smith, was not only a good public servant, but was a valiant and elequent minister of the Bantist Church, a kind and loving husband and father, we take this opportunity to extend to his family and parishioners our sincere sympathy in their great bereavement and loss, and commend them for comfort and solace to the One who doth all things well, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that a cony of this resolution be spread on the minutes of the City Council of Azusa; a copy be furnished to the family, to the Congregation of the Baptist Church and to the Azusa newspapers, to the end that his good work and a memory of his many good deeds may become a permanent record of the community wherein he labored so zealously and well. Moved by Councilman Muehe, seconded by Councilman Johnson and unanimously carried that an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCTL OF THE AZUSA, PROHIBITING THE DESTRUCTION OR USE OF ANY FLOOD CONTROL LEVEES, EMBANKMENTS, CHANNELS, DAMS, RESERVOIRS OR ANY OTHER PROPERTY OWNED OR USED FOR FLOOD CONTROL PURPOSES BY ANY PUBLIC AGENCY WITH OUT A PERMIT THEREFOR AND PROHIBITING THE: DUMPING OF ANY RUBBISH OR PLACING OF ANY OBSTRUCTION IN THE STREAM BED OF ANY RIVER, STREAM, 1,11, 'ASHY ARROYO OR FLOOD CONTROL CHANNEL IN THE CITY OF AZUSA. be placed on its first reading. M. 479 Moved by Councilman Muehe, seconded by Councilman Johnson and duly carried that an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, REGULATING THE SANITARY CONDITION WITHIN OR SUR1i0UNDING "FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS" ,'.ND REQUIRING ALL PERSONS MAINTAINING FOOD ESTABLISHL'ENTS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT THEREFOR AND REPEALING ALL ORDIN- ANCES IN CONFLICT H-;:RE�'.rITH AND PROVIDING PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. be placed on its first read. A resolution protesting a license being issued to R. L. Gillmore and F. J. Ellison to organize and operate a Boxing Club in Azusa, adopted by the Azusa Woman's Club, was read. F. S. Hayden, Principal of the Citrus High School and Junior College offered a similar protest. The Christian, Baptist, Presbyterian and Methodist Churchs filed signed petitions protesting against the organization and operation of professional. Boxing Club, giving weekly or other periodical exhibi- tions of boxing in the City of Azusa. Moved by Councilman Mace, seconded by Councilman Muehe and unanimously carried that a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, PROTESTI?,:G TO THE STATE ATHLETIC COI¢MISSION AND TO THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. AGAINST THE GRANTING OF A. PErMIT TO OPERATE A PROFES- SIONAL BOXI`iG CLUB I1v THE CITY OF AZUSA. be read. This resolution was then read. Moved by Councilman Muehe, seconded by Councilman Mace that this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1129. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Johnson, Mace, Milehe, Meier. Noes: None. !absent: Councilman: Demmitt.
