An ordinance for .Revenue and Police regulation,providing for the
1 Licensing of Dogs in the City of Azusa and providing a Penalty for
2 the Violation of the same.

The Board of Trustees of the City of Azusa do ordain as follows:

5 SECTION l: It shall be,and is hereby declared to be,unlawful for
6 any person or persons owning or having charge,care or control of
7 any dog to have or keep the same within the corporate limits of th
8 City of Azusa,on and after January 15th. 1910,unless there shall b,
9 lattached to such dog a collar on which there shall be a metal tag
10 obtained from the City Tax and License Collector as hereinafter
11 provided and inscribed as hereinafter provided and no dog shall be
12 permitted to be or remain within said corporate limits without sue'
13 tag.
14 Seaction 2: The City Tax and License Collector is hereby author -
15 ized and directed to procure every Year before the First Monday
16 in March as many metal tags as may be necessary,which tags shall
17 be plainly rAmbered and shall have the year inscribed thereon and
18 a statement of the.sex of the dog for which each such tag is
19 issued. Such tags shall be effective until the first Monday of
20 March of the year next ensuing and no longer.
21 Provided however that said tags so furnished and issued under the
22 provisions of this ordinance prior to the First Monday of March,
23 1910 shall be effective until the First Mondaq of March,1910 and
24 no longer.
25 Said Tax and License collector shall furnish a tag or tags to any
26 person or persons applying therefor and paying the sum of one
27 dollar each for tags for male dags and two dollars each for tags
28 for female dogs, and said Tax and License collector shall keep a
29 register in which shall be entered the name of the person or per -
30 sons to whom eacg tag is issued,the number of the tag, the date of
31 issuance and a general description of the dog for which each such
32 tag shall be issued giving sex,color,age and breed of the same.

1 Section 3: It is hereby made the duty of the Marshall,Pound Master
2 and of all Police Officers of said City, to take up all dogs
3 found running at large in said City unless a proper tag as in
4 this ordinance provided,is attached thereto. All dogs taken up
5 under this ordinance shall be delivered to the Poundmaster of
6 said City and shall be kept confined by him and provided with

7 proper food and water until disposed of as hereinafter prop. ed.
8 Any dog impounded may be redeemed by paying one dollar pound fee, s
9 and procuring said dog a proper tag as provided in this ordinance
10 A description of all dogs impounded and not immediately redeemed
11 shall be posted in three Public places in said City for a period
12 of three days,at the expiration of said three days,all dbo.im-
13 pounded and unredeemed, shall be killed and burried by said Pound
14 master; Provided that after the expiration of the three days as
15 above specified skid Poundmaster shall have the right to dispose
16 of any unredeemed dog by gift or sale to any perilo will pay
17 the pound fee of one dollar and procure the necessafok tag for said
18 deg.
19 SECTION 4: It shall be and is hereby declared to be unlawdul for
20 any person to imitate or counterfeit the tags provided for in thi
21 ordinance or to use any imitation or counterfeit thereof.
22 SECTION 5: It shall be and is hereby declared to be unlawful for
23 any person to rescue or attempt to rescue any animal mentioned
24 herein from the possession of the Poundmaster or of any Officer of
25 said City while he may be engaged in conveying the same to the
26 City Pound.
27 SECTION 6: The City Tax and License Collector and Poundmaster
28 shall pay over to the City Treasurer all money received by them
29 respectively under this ordinance. They shall each file with the
30 I City Clerk an itemized Monthly report of their respective receipts
31 I under this ordinance. The Poundmaster shall be entitled to receive
32 fifty cents (?x.50) for each dog impounded and an additional fifty

cents ($.50) for each dog killed under this ordinance,which said
sums shall be in full payment for all services performed by him
under this ordinance,and shall be paid out of the general fund of
said City upon warrant authorized and ordered by the Board of
Trustees of said City.
SECTION 7: The provisions of this ordinance shall not apply to
proved to be
any dog or dogs„of a transient nature.
SECTION 8: Any person violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,and upon con-
viction thereof in a Court of competent jurisdiction shall be pun—
ished by a fine not exceeding fifty (50.00) dollars or by im—
prisonment in the City Jail of the City of Azusa for a period of
not exceeding drifty days,or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 9: Ordinance number 50 of the City of Azusa, and all
ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provis—
ions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 10: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this
ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the
Pomotropic,a weekly Newspaper of general circulation published
and circulated iri the City of Azusa.
