AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
REGULATING THE SPEED OF VEHICLES UPON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAYS OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Azusa do ordain as followA:
Section 1. That it shall be unlawful for any person to ride or
drive, or to cause to be ridden or driven, any horse or other animal,
or to ride, drive or propel, or to cause to be ridden, driven or
propelled, any auttLmobile, motor -cycle, bicycle or other vehicle upon the
following public streets, avenues or lanes within the City of Azusa,to-wit
San Gabriel Avenue, Azusa Avenue, Alameda Avenue, Dalton Avenue, Soldano
Avenue and Pasadena Avenue; between the south line of Third Street and
the north line of Ninth Street, and upon Centre Street, Fifth Street and
Sixth Street between the west line of San Gabriel Avenue on the west and
the east line of CeritOs Avenue on the east; at a greater rate of speed
than fifteen (15) miles per hour.
Section 2. That it shall be unlawful for any person to ride or
drive,,or to cause to be ridden or driven, any horse or other animal, or
to ride, drive or propel, or to cause to be ridden, driven or propelled,
any automobile, motor -cycle, bicycle or other vehicle at a greater rate
of speed than.fif.teen (15) miles per hour across the intersection of Azusa
Avenue and Centre Street in the said City of Azusa.
Section 3. That it shall be unlawful for any person to ride or
drive, or to cause to be ridden or driven, any horse or other animal,
or to ride, drive or propel, or to cause to be ridden, driven or propelled,
any automobile, motor -cycle, bicycle or other vehicle upon any other
portion of the public streets, avenues or lanes of said City of Azusa than

portions thereof described in Sectiorb 1 of this ordinance, at a
greater rate of speed than twenty (20) miles per hour.
Section 4. That it shall be the duty df every
driver of an automobile ,
when driving upon Azusa Avenue between the north line of Fifjfth Street and -
the southerly line of the right of way of the Atchison, Topeka and
Santa He railway Company (Coast lines), in a northerly direction, when

Section 4. That it shall be the duty df every

when driving upon Azusa Avenue between the north line of Fifjfth Street and -

desiring to stop, to do,p upon the easterly side of said street and,
when desiring to leave the same standing, to do so within two (2)
feet of the easterly curb line of said street and facing north; and
every person driving in a southerly direction, when desiring to stop,
to do so upon the westerly side of said street and, when desiring to
leave the same standing, to do so within two (2) feet of the westerly
curb line of said street and facing south.
Section 5. It shall be unlawful for any person to allow to
stand, operate, ride, drive or propel, any motor vehicle with the
muffler thereof open, upon or along any portion of the public streets
designated in Section 1 of this ordinance, or with the exhaust from
the motor in any such vehicle ejected otherwise than through such
muffler, or with such exhaust ejected toward the surface of the
street or ground. For the purpose of this ordinance, the term
"motor vehicles" shall include auto trucks, automobiles, motor—
cycles and all other vehicles operated by power other than by
animal power.
Section 6. It shall be unlawful for any person to cause or
permit the motor in any vehtdle ridden, driven, propelled or
operated, upon any portion of the streets designated ir. Section 1
of this Ordinance, to emit any unnecessary noise., smoke, oil or
other matter.
Section 7. It is hereby declared to be unlawful for any
person to ride, drive or propel any wagon, buggy, cart -or bicycle
upon any of the public streets df the City of Azusa, between the
hours from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise of the
following day, unless such Uehicle shall nave a light attached
thereto.
Section 8. It shall be unlawful for any person to leave
standing on any of the public streets, sidewalks or -other public
highways, in the City of Azusa, any automobile, motor—cycle,
wagon, buggy, cart or bicycle between the hours from one hour after
sunset to one hour before

desiring to stop, to do,p upon the easterly side of said street and,
when desiring to leave the same standing, to do so within two (2)
feet of the easterly curb line of said street and facing north; and
every person driving in a southerly direction, when desiring to stop,
to do so upon the westerly side of said street and, when desiring to
leave the same standing, to do so within two (2) feet of the westerly
curb line of said street and facing south.
Section 5. It shall be unlawful for any person to allow to

Section 9. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride or drive, or
to cause to be ridden or driven, any animal, or to ride, drive or propel,
or to cause to be ridden, driven or propelled, any vehicle over, upon,
along or across that portion of any public highway upon which there is
any newly laid pavement or which is being improved by grading, oiling,
paving, claying or otherwise, or to ride, or drive, Or to cause to be
ridden or driven, any animal or vehicle upon, along, across or over that
portion of any public highway, within the City of Azusa, which is being
repaired by grading, oiling, paving, claying or otherwise.
Section lo. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride or drive, or
to cause to be ridden or driven, any horse or other animal, or to ride,
drive or propel, or to cause to be ridden, driven or propelled, any wagon,
bicycle, motor -cycle, automobile or other vehicle upon or along any
public sidewalk or to permit any such animal or vehicle to stand thereon,
or to permit any such animal or vehicle to stand upon any public street
in such manner as to obstruct the free use of such street.
Section 11. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation
to ride, driv& or propel, or to cause or permit to be ridden, driven or
propelled along or upon any of the paved, macadamized, oiled or clayed
streets in the City of Azusa, any vehicle or traction engine, harrow, disk
harrow, plow or other implement any tire of which is worn or is not
smooth, or that has a sharp or uneven surface, or to which is attached
cleats, spikes or any uneven surface or to have attached thereto any device
or devices that will tear up, out up or otherwise.damage the surface of
such highway.
Section 12. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation
riding, driving, propelling or .controlling any vehicle to, when approaching
any street crossing within the district prescribed in Section I of this
Ordinance, turn to the left before crossing the center line of the street
Intersecting the one upon which said vehicles are traveling.
Section 13. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.

Section 14. Every person violating any of the provisions of
Sections I, 2 & 3 of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction thereof shall bepunished by a fine, for the first
offense, not to exceed #50.00 and not less than $25.00; for the second
offense, not to exceed $100.00 and not less than $50.00, or by imprison-
ment in the City jail of the City of Azusa not more than thirty (30) days;
an(i for the third offense, by a fine not to exceed 0300.00, nor to be less
than $100.00, or by imprisonment In the City jail not exceeding ninety
(90) days, or bybothsuch fine and imprisonment. And every person viol-
ating any of the^provisions of this ordinance shall be punished b;, a. fine
not less than 03.00, nor more than 010.00.
Section 15. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the Pomotropic,
a weekly newspaper published and circulated to the said City of Azusa and
hereby designated for that purpose, and thirty days after the final
adoption of this ordinance the same shall take effect and be in full force.
The foregoing ordinance was adopted at a regular meeting of the
Board of Tvustees of the City of Azusa held on the day o ,1913,
by the affirmative vote of at least three trustees, to -wit:
