It is hereby declared to be unlawful for person owning or having charge, care or control of any dog to have or keep the same within the corporate limits of the City of Azusa, and. no dog shall be permitted to be and remain within the said cor- porate limits thereof, unless there shall be attached to such dog a collar on which there shall be a metal tag with an appropriate number obtained from the City Clerk and inscribed as hereinafter provided, an odd number to be used for a male dog and an even number for a female dog. A young dog or pup shall not be deemed subject to the provisions of this ordinance until it is six months old or over, provided that the City Marshal may require an affidavit to be filed with him, stating the exact age of any dog showing it to be exempt under this provision. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall keep a register wherein shall be entered the name of the owner of the dog to which the tag has been issued, and the number and date thereof. The City Clerk is hereby directed to procure the necessary tags mentioned in the pre- ceding Section, and to annually collect or receive from the Owner of every dog owned or harbored within the limits of Said City the sum of One dollar (01.00) each for male dogs and Two dollars (J .00) each for female dogs. And the said tags shall have stamped upon them the year and "March lot", and shall be good for one year from such date, and the City Clerk is hereby required to procure prior to the 1st day of ldarch of each year new tags stamped as above required The City Clerk shall pay all moneys received by him for such tags -1- 1 2 3 4 5 e 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 `- 14 eUd 5 m' 15 x"F= a oaw Wyk.18 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 28 27 28 29 30 31 32 i "^\ 1 16"l into the tre8sury, and such money shall constitute a special fiend to be known as the.Dog Tax Fund. SEV IOF 31 Any person owning or having charge, care or control of any dog, who shall permit or allow the same to run at large upon any street, lane, alley, park or other public place, within the corporate limits of the City of Azusa, and any person who shall permit or allow any dog to be kept or to remain upon any pre- mises under his immediate control, unless such dog shall be regis- tered and shall have a collar attached thereto, on which there s'lall be a tag, inscribed as in this Ordinance provided, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor. SECTION 4. .9ny person who shall attach to or keep upon any dog any tag provided for in Section 2 hereof, except a tag is- sued to him for such WE for the then current year, under the pro- visions of this OVinance, or who shall attach to or seep upon any dog or who shall make or have in his possession any counterfeit or imitation of any tag provided for in said Section 2, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor. SECTION 5. It shall be the duty of the City rarshal, during the month of June of each year, and at such other times as tk Board of Trustees shall by resolution, first: duly published, direct to kill or cause to be killed all dogs within the City of Azusa., wherever the same may be found, which are not licensed and collared, according to tete provisions of this Ordinance and to enter complaint against the owners or keepers thereof. SECTION b. Any person who has been assaulted or bitten by any dog within the City of Anusa while he was peaceably walking or riding outside the enclosure of its owner or keeper, may make an affidavit to such fact and file the same r.ith the City Marshal, and it shall thereupon be the duty of the city Marshal to'immediately give notice iu writing of the filing of cath affidavit to the owner or keeper 1,ho shall thereafter hill such doS forthwith or keep him -2- "^\ 1 16"l into the tre8sury, and such money shall constitute a special fiend to be known as the.Dog Tax Fund. SECTION 7. The hoard of Trustees of the City of Azusa may at any time when they shall deem it necessary on account of the prevalence of hydrophobia or rabies or for sanitary purposes, order that all dogs within the limits of the City of Azusa shall be pro- hibited, for a time to be fired in such order, from running at large on any street, boulevard, alley, pari: or other public place in such City, unless such dogs be securely muzzled, or led by a chain or line, so as to effectually prevent them from biting any person or animal, which order shall be published in the same manner in which the Ordinances in said Cit- are published in said City of Azusa, and it shall be the duty of the City L:arshal, after twenty-four hours from the publishing of such order, to kill all dogs found umnuzzled or running at lar3e, contrary to such order. SECTIO.e S. The City .,arshal may serve or cause to be served a copy of such order upon the owner or keeper of any dog within tab City of Azusa, and if such owner or keeper refuses or neglects after twenty-four hours from stitch service to muzzle or confine such dog, as required by the terms of said order, he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor. SECTION 9. Any of the duties prescribed herein to be performed by the City I,rarshal, may be performed by a special police officer, appointed by the Board of Trustees of said City, and he may be paid such .fees or compensation as shall be fixed in the resolu- tion of his appointment. SECTIOIv 10. SECTION 11. Ordinance ro. 116 of the City of Azusa, entitled, "An ordinance for revenue and police regulation providing. for the licensing of dogs in the City of Azusa, and providing a penalty for the violation of the same", adopted January 10th, 1910, is hereby repealed. SECTION 12. The City Clerk shall certify to the Das - sage of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in The Pomotropic, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated in said City of Azusa, and thereupon and thereafter the sane shall be in full force and effect.
