2 AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE
HELD IN THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, ON THE
3 26th DAY OF OCTOBER, 19209 AND SUBMITTING TO
THE QUALIFIED VOTERS!OF SAID CITY THE PROPOSI-
4 TION OF INCUR?INA FRONDED DEBT IN THE SUM OF
EIGHTYTHOUSAND ( 80,000.00) DOLLARS FOR THE
5 ACQUISITION, CON TRUCTION AND COhTLETION BY
` THE SAID CITY OF AZUSA OF THE FOLLOWING hNNI-
6 CIPAL MPROVEMENTS, TO -WIT:
THE ACQUISITION, CONSTEUCTION AND COITLETION
7 OF STREET WORK UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA: PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUE OF BONDS
8 THEREFOR AND FOR THE LEVY OF A TAX FOR THE PAY-
I.�ENT OF SAID BONDS; DESIGNATING THE ELECTION
9 PRECINCT AND POLLING PLACE, AND APPOINTING THE
ELECTION OFF.ICERSrFUR SAID ELECTION.

11 The Board of Trustees of the City of Azusa do ordain
12 as follows:
13 SECTION l: Whereas the Board of Trustees of the City
14 of Azusa, California, at a regular meeting thereof held Tuesday,
15 September 7, 1920, by a vote of two-thirds of all its members,
16 duly passed and adopted a resolution determining that the public
17 interest and necessity demand the acquisition, construction and
18 completion by said City of Azusa of the following municipal improve -
19 ments, to—wit:
20 The acquisition, construction and completion of street
21 work upon :;F public streets of the City of Azusa; and
22 Whereas said resolution was approved by the executive
23 of said City, to -wit, the President of said Board of Trustees of
24 said 7th day of September, 1920, at said meeting of said Board of
25 Trustees and was published on the 10th day of September, 1920, in
26 the Pomotropic, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, published
27 and circulated in said City of Azusa, and
28 Whereas the estimated cost of said municipal improvement
29 is Eighty Thousand ($80,000..00) Dollars, and such estimated cost is,
•30 and will be too great to be paid out of the ordinay annual income
31 and revenue of said City;
32 SECTION 2: NOW THEREFOEE a special election is hereby

called to be held in the said City of Azusa, California, on the
26th day of October, 1920, for the purpose of submitting to the
qualified voters.of said City the following proposition set forth
in said resolution:
The proposition of incurring a bonded debt of the sum
of Eighty Thousand ($80,000.00) Dollars for the acquisition, con-
struction and completion of street work upon public streets of the
City of Azusa.
SECTION 3: That the objects and purposes for which
said indebtedness is proposed to be incurred are as follows:
The acquisition, construction and completion of street
work upon public streets of the City of Azusa. That the estimated
cost of such proposed public improvements is Eighty Thousand
($80,000.00) Dollars. That if the proposition of incurring said
indebtedness for said purpose so submitted at said.election receives
the requisite number of votes, to -wit, the votes of two-thirds
of all the voters voting at such special election, bonds of said
City of Azusa ti, the sum of Eighty Thousand (1")80,000.00) Dollars
shall be issued and sold for said purpose.
Said bonds shall be eighty (80) in number and shall
be issued in the denomination of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars
each, and the principal and interest thereon shall be payable in
lawful money of the United States.
They shall be dated December 1, 1920, and bear interest
at the rate of six per cent (6%) per annum, payable semi-annually
on the lst day of June and the lst day of December of each year, and
said eighty (80) Bonds shall be payable in the manner following:
Two of said bonds of the denomination of One Thousand
($1,000.00) Dollars shall be paid on the lst day of December, 1921,
and two of said bonds of the denomination of One Thousand ($1,000.00)
Dollars on the same day and date of each and every year thereafter
at the City Treasury of said City of Azusa, together with interest

on all sums unpaid at such date.
SECTION 4: That for the purpose of paying the principal and interest
on such bonds the Board of Trustees of said City shall at the time
of fixing the general tax levy, and in the manner for such general
tax levy provided, levy and collect annually each year, until
said bonds are paid, or until there shall be a sum in the treasury
of said City set apart for that purpose sufficient to meet all sums
coming due for principal and interest on such bonds, a tax suffi-
cient to pay the annual interest on such bonds, and also such part
of the principal thereof as shall become due before the time for
fixing the next general tax levy.
Said tax shall be in addition to all other taxes levied
for municipal purposes, and shall be collected at the same time and
in the same manner as other municipal taxes are collected, and be
used for no other purpose than the payment of said bonds and
accruing interest.
SECTION b: The polls for said election must be opened
at 6 o'clock A.M. of the day of election, and must be kept open
until 7 o'clock P.M. of the same day, when the pb?lls shall be closed;
except and provided, however, that if at the hour of closing there
are any other voters in the polling place or in line at the door,
who are qualified to vote and have not been able to do so since
appearing, the polls shall be kept open a sufficient time to enable
them tot vote. But no one who shall arrive at the polling place
after 7 o'clock in the afternoon, shall be entitled to vote, althou
the polls may be open when he arrives.
The ballots to be used at such election shall be printed
substantially in the following form:

INSTRUCTION TO VOTERS
6 To vote on any proposition of incurring a bonded debt
7 fo the purpose specified in such proposition, stain a cross
in the voting square after the word "Yes", or after the
8 word "No". All marks except the cross (X� are forbidden. All
distinguishing marks or erasures are forbidden and mage the
9 ballot void.
10 If you wrong%y stamp, tear or deface this ballot, re—
turn it to the Inspector.of Election and obtain another.

12 Shall the City of Azusa incur a bonded debt of
$80,000.00 for the acquisition, construction and YES
13 completion of street work upon public streets of
the City of Azusa? NO

15 The voter at such election shall mark his ballot by stamp
16 ing in theappropriate.voting square a cross (X) opposite the answer
17 he desires to give as to such proposition. Such cross shall .be
18 made only with a stamp:

24 Hall at the northeasterly corner of Centre Street and Alameda Avenue
25 in said City of Azusa, and. the Board of Election for such special
26 election is hereby appointed as follows:

1 And the above named persons are hereby appointed to
2 such offices respectively, and their compensation shall be $5.00

4 SECTION 7: That in all particulArs not recited in this
5 Ordinance, such election shall be held as provided by law for hold-
s ing municipal electionsin said City.
7 SECTION 8: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage
8 and adoption of this Ordinance by a vote of two-thirds of all the
9 members of the Board of Trustees of said City, and its approval
10 by the President of said Board, and shall cause baid Ordinance to
11 be published once a week for two weeks in the Pomotropic, a weekly
12 newspaper of general circulation, published less than six days a
13 week in said City of Azusa, and thereupon and thereafter it shall
14 take effect and be in full force.
