HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 273I W ORDINANCE NO. 273. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROHIBITING OBSTRUCTIONS ON SIDEWALKS, AND PROVIDING PENALTY THEREFOR. The City Council of the City cf Azusa do ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Obstructions. It shall be unlawful for any person firm or corporation to place or maintain, authorize or permit to be placed or maintained upon any sidewalk in the City of Azusa, except as hereinafter provid- ed, boxes, goods, wares, merchandise, building material, signs, billboards or any other article or thing tending to obstruct the free use of such sidewalk, without special per- mit first having been obtained therefor from the Street Superintendent of said City. Provided, that this section shall not apply to such obstruction as is the result of the loading or unloading of merchandise or other articles in the usual and ordinary course of business unless such obstruction is permitted to remain upon such sidewalk for a period of more than one hour. SECTION 2. Definition. The term "sidewalk", as in this ordinance used shall mean and include the portion of a street between the curb -lines and the adjacent property lines. SECTION 3. Penalty. Any person, firm or cor- poration violating any of the provisions of this ordinance, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction there- of, shall be punished for a first offense by a fine not exceeding Fifty Dollars (;;;50.00), or by imprisonment in the city jail for not more than five (5) days; for a second. and each additional offense within a period of one year from the date of the first offense by a fine not exceeding One Hundred Dollars 0100.00) or by imprisonment in the city jail for not more than One Hundred Days or by both such fine and imprisonment; SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published by one insertion in the The Azusa Journal, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the City of Azusa. I hereby certify that the foregoing ordinance was duly passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Azusa held on the day of January, 19288 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen:," NOES: ABSENT: city Clerk of the City of Azusa.
