ORDINANCE No. IY
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA LICENSING, FOR THE
PURPOSE OF REVENUE AND REGULATION, ALL AND EVERY KIND OF
BUSINESS AUTHORIZED BY LAW AND TRANSACTED AND CARRIED ON
IN THE CITY OF AZUSA, AND ALL SHOWS, EXHIBITIONS AND LAWFUL
GAMES CARRIED ON THEREIN, FIXING THE RATE OF LICENSE TAX
UPON THE SAME, PROVIDING PENALTY FOR ALL VIOLATIONS
THEREOF, AND REPEALING ALh ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS
ORDINANCE.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain
as fol.lgws:
Section l: It shall be unlawful for any person or
persons, firm; co -partnership or corporation, or for any
person as agent, servant, clerk or employee, or for himself
or for any other person, firm, co -partnership or corporation
within the corporate limits of the City of Azusa.to transact,
engage in or carry on any pursuit, trade, occupation,
avocation, employment, business or calling herein specified
until he, she, they or it bhall have first obtained. a license
therefor as in this Ordinance required.•
Each and every day or fractional part of a day that
said pursuit, trade, occupation, avocation, employment
business or calling in this Ordinance specified is conducted
or carried on without such license, shall constitute a
violation of this Ordinance, and any person, who, for himself,
or for any other person, firm, co -partnership or corporation
shall violate any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall,
for each violation thereof, be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor and upon conviction by any Court having jurisdiction
thereof, shall be fined therefor in a sum not in .excess of
$200.00, or shall be imprisoned in the City or County Jail
not exceeding thirty (30) days, or by both such fine and
imprisonment; provided, however, that if any person shall
furnish such evidence as shall satisfy the Chief of Police
and the City Clerk, that he was formerly a soldier in the
United States Army, or a sailor in the United States Navy,
from either of which he was honorably discharged, a. free li-
cense may be issued to such party for a limited number of
consecutive days to be specified in such license., not in
any event to exceed sixty days in any one fiscal year, nor
shall more than one such license be issued to or for the
benefit of any such person in any one fiscal year, under this
proviso.
The term or duration of each license shall be annually,
quarterly, monthly, weekly or daily, according to the terms
of the Section of this Ordinance fixing the amount of each
license.
Annual licenses shall date from the first day of July;
quarterly licenses shall d_ate,from the first day of July,
October, January and April of the year in which they are
issued; monthly licenses shall, date from the first day of the
month in which they are issued. IF[here licenses are issued
hereunder for the unexpired part of the term, the amount
of license fee required shall be proportioned accordingly;
provided, that the minimum license fee for an unexpired.
annual term shall. be one quarter of the annual license fee,
and the minimum license fee for an unexpired quarterly
term shall. be one third thereof. All licenses shall be
paid for in advance, and no rebate given for any unused
portion of the term.

All licenses issued under the provisions of this
ordinance shall be posted in the place of business of
licensee named in such license and the said license shall
be produced by the licensee whenever the same shall be
required by the Chief of Police, or any other Officer of
the City.
It is hereby made the duty of the Chief of Police
to enforce all the provisions of this Ordinance. No
personal demands or notices by the Chief of Police to such
persons owing such licenses.tax shall be necessary to
incur t:he penalties of this Ordinance.
Section 2: All licenses issued under and by virtue
of this Ordinance shall be printed in blank form, signed
by the Clerk of the City of Azusa. The City Clerk shall.
set forth in. said license the name of the party to whom the
license is issued, the nature of the trade or business, he,
she, they or it are licensed to pursue the time for which
the same is granted, the date thereof, the amount paid.
therefor, and the location where said trade, business, calling
or avocation is carried on, or proposed to be carried on.
The City Clerk shall cause to be printed a sufficient
number of such license forms as may be required for one
year, in book form with blank stub to each, and shall
deliver the same to the Chief of Police from time to ti -e
as may be required and charge the Chief of Police there-
with, who shall appear at the office of the City Clerk on
the first Monday in each month and settle for the licenses
sold.; provided, however, that all licenses now issued shall
be good for the time for whicl, such l.iccnses were issued,
unless sooner revoked by the City Council.
The City Clerk shall on application of the Chief of
Police issue to him such blank licenses as may be required.,
receiving at the time of issuing the same, from the Chief of
Police, a statement of the person to whom issued and the
time of commencement and expiration of said. license, which
statement must be inserted by the City Clerk on stub of
said license issued and. which stub must be kept in the
office of the City Clerk.
Section 3: Any license granted or issued under
any provision of this Ordinance shall authorize the licensee
to transact or carry on the business or calling therein
anmed, at the place therein -designated and no other, and
the said .license shall not be transferrable nor assignable
except by the approval of theCity Clerk, except as provided
in Section 4 hereof. No license shall be granted. if any
prior license fee remains unpaid.
Section 4: No license shall be issued for any
livery or feed stable, public laundry where washing is done
for hire, hotel, lodging house, service station, gasoline
plant, topping plant, oil refinery, absorption plant,
warehouse, supply or storage depot or ,yard, cracking plant,
dance hall, oil distillery, chop house, coffee house,
bakery, restaurant, lunch counter, shooting gallery, billiard
room, pool room, pocket billiard room, skating rink, merry-
go-round, bowling alley, fortune telling, clairvoyance and
kindred practices garage, creamery, auctiong, auction house,
junk dealers, wrecking house,'or automobiles for hire at
stations, stands, or places on public streets, or peanut
venders, tamale stands, or lunch wagons at stations,
stands or places on the public streets, or for any game,
nor shall. the same be assigned or transferred, except on
the order of the City Council of the City of Azusa,, and
whenever any person, persons, firm, co -partnership, or
corporation, desires to open or keep any business specified

in the section, he, she, they or it, shall petition the
City Council to order a license therefor, which petition
shall set forth the name of the applicant, the character of
the business and the location of the premises where the
business is to be conducted, and on the hearing of said
petition the said City Council may grant the same in whole
or in part, or may reject the same and no license shall
be issued thereon except as ordered by said City Council.
Where any business in this section specified may become
dnagerous to.or affect the public health peace or safety,
the City Council may refuse to grant the license.
Should the City Council of this city at any time
determine that the premises wherein any business described
in this section is conducted, are not in good and sanitary
condition, or not properly drained, or have become dangerous
or affect the public peace, and quiet, it may revoke its
order requiring the license .for such business to issue and
no further license shall be issued thereon until such
premises shall have been put in a safe, properly drained and
sanitary condition.
A separate license must be obtained for each branch
establishment or separate place of business in which the
business, trade, avocation, calling or occupation is carded
on, and such license shall avthorize the party obtaining it
to carry on, pursue or conduct only that trade, business,
calling, avocation or occupation described in such license,
and. only at the _location or place indicated in the license.
Every peddler, solicitor, and any other person
conducting or carrying on any business, calling, trade,
profession, avocation or occupation named in this Ordinance,
and not having a fixed and established place of business
in the City of Azusa, who carried on his, her,.their or
its business by means of canvass from house to house, or
place to place, or by means of any motor or other vehicle
is required to at all times, while engaged in said business
or operating such vehicle, to have in his, her, its or
their immediate possession and be able to produce and display
to any officer of the City of Azusa requiring the same, the
license under which he, she they or it carry on and
conduct the said business, profession, calling, avocation
or occupation.
Section 5: All police officers are hereby appointed
inspectors of licenses and in addition to their several
duties as police officers are hereby required to examine all,
places of business and persons in the City of Azusa liable
to pay license for the transaction or carrying on of any
business, profession, avocation, trade, calling or occupation
as provided by this Ordinance, and to see that such
licenses are taken out, and shall exercise in connection with
their said duties as license inspectors the power to.make
arrests for violation of any of the provisions of this
Ordinance; to enter without charge at any time any place of
business for which a license is required by this Ordinance
and to demand the exhibition of such license for the current
term, and if any such person shall there and then fail to
exhibit such license, such person shall be liable to the
penalty provided for a violation of this Ordinance.
It is hereby made the duty of the police officers
to cause complaint to be filed against all persons violating
any of the provisions of this Ordinance.
The Chief of Police is hereby directed to carry into
effect the provisions of this Section.

Section 6: The conviction and punishment of any
person transacting or carrying on any business, trade,
calling, profession, avocation or occupation in the City
of Azusa without a license as provided by this Ordinance,
shall not excuse or exempt such person from the payment
of any license due or unpaid at the time of such conviction
and nothing herein shall prevent the commencement and
maintenance in Court of competent jurisdiction of an action
to recover such license tax.
Section 7: The provisions of this Ordinance shall
not apply to churches, religious societies, fraternal
societies, charitable societies of the City of Azusa.
Section 8: The rate of license for carrying on the
pursuit, trade, occupation, avocation, employment, business
or calling specified in this Ordinance shall be as follows:
Section 9: The rate of license for carrying passengers
in airplanes is hereby fixed at $10.00 per annum.
Section 10: The rate of license for the business
of auto virecking is hereby fixed at the sum of $25.00 per annum.
Section 11: The rate of license for conducting and
carrying on the business of auction house or auctioneer for
selling goods, wares merchandise, at auction shall be $5.00
per day.
Section 12: The rate of .license for carrying on
the profession or business of astrology, palmistry, phrenology,
fortune telling, car.tomancy, clairvoyance, crystal gazing,
hypnotism, mediumship, prophecy, augury, magic, or necromancy
where a fee is charged and received for the ractice or
exhibition of any such practice, the sum of 20.00 per day.
Section 13: The rate of license for conducting
the business of buying, selling, leasing, renting, or
91oL exchanging or in any way dealing with real estate or
real property as the broker or agent of another or where
commissions are received or charged, including the
business of soliciting, selling and dealing in fire,
liability, accident, automobile, and life insurance of
every- kind, shall be $12.00 per annum.
Section .14: The rate of license for every person
conducting managing or carrying on the'business of an auto
for hire is hereby fixed as follows:
(a) Pcr each auto capable o'f sedting more than
fifteen (15) persons, the sum of $15.00 per annum.
(b) For each auto capable of seating more than -
seven (7) persons and less than fifteen (15) persons,
$12.00 per annum.
(c) For each auto capable of sea -ting seven (7)
persons or less, $10.00 per annum.
(d) For each ambulance, the sum of $10.00 per annum.
Section 15: The rate of license for photography
for sale of any character not having a permanent place of
business, $3.00 per day.
Section 16: The rate of license for conducting
and carrying on an auto repair shop is hereby fixed at the
rate of $12.00 per annum.
For the purpose of this section the term "Auto Repair
Shop" is defined as any shop, building, room, or place inhere
any auto or any parts thereof are repaired, remodbled or
or overhauled and a compensation charged. for the same.

Section 17: The rate of license,£or conducting,
carrying on or managing the business of maintaining any
game, exhibition, amusement recreational device or any
kind of amusement or entertainment not otherwise provided
for in this Ordinance and. charging or collecting any
admission or playing fee, or acceptin any free-will
offering therefor is hereby fixed.at 150.00 per annum of"
$3.00 per day for every game, exhibition, amusement or re-
creational devide and for each such amusement or entertainment.

Secti.on.18: the rate of license Xor conducting,
managing or carrying on.an amusement.park within any inclosure
where an admission fee is charged is hereby fixed at .0100.00
per annum or $5.00 per day.
Section•19: The rate•of license for engaging.in or
carrying on the business or profession hereinafter enumerated
isth.ereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.,
Architect, assayer, attorney at law, auditor, accountant,
chemist, mechanical engineer, chiropractor, dentist, optician,
optometrist, chiropodist, civil engineer, electrical engineer,
chemical engineer, occulist, osteopath or osteopathist,
physician and surgeon and veterinarian.'
Section 20: The rate oflicense for conducting,
managing or operating a boarding houTe'business if hereby
fixed at $8.00 per annum. "Boarding House" is hereby
defined as a place other than a Hotel, where regular meals
only are offered or sold to the general public or some
portion thereof.
Section 21: The rate of license for conducting the
business of a barber shop where one chair is used $1p.00
per annum, and for each additional chair used $2.00 per annum.
If a manicurist is employed in connectionp with such
barber shop an"additional license of x$64.00 per annum.
Section 22: The'rate of license for carrying on the
business of selling or supplying bread, cakes, pies and
pastry from a wagon or other vehicle, for each such wagon
or vehicle used in said business the sum of 160.00 per
annum; provided that no person having a fixed and
established bakery in the City of Azusa shall. be required to
pay a license for the operation of one or more such wagons
or vehicles used by him for the purpose of delivering the
products of his bakery upon orders received at said place
of business.
Section 23: The rate of license for conducting,
operating, or maintaining the business of selling, offering
.for sale and otherwise dealing in and handling neva automobiles
or other motor vehicles, the sum of 012.00 per annum.
Section 24: The rate of license for carrying on,
managin. or conducting the business of a beauty parlor, the
sum of 12.00 per annum.
Section 25: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on`a`billiard, bagatelle or pool table ,
except such as are used in private homeq, $5.00 per annum
per table, whether the same is in use or not.($5.00 for
first table, and 12.50 for each additional table.)
Section 26: The rate of license for conducting a
bakery is hereby fixed at $t MO per annum.
Section 27: The rate of license for maintaining,
conducting and carrying on a banking business shall be
$25.00 per annum.

Section 28: The rate of license for conducting,
carrying on and maintaining a public bath house shall be,
and the same is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 29: The rate of license for carrying on, .
maintaining or operating a blacksmith shop is hereby fixed
at $12.00 per annum.
Section 30: The rate of license for conducting or
maintaining the business of checking room or station,
which is hereby defined to mean a place or compartment at
which baggage, .parcels, and personal property are checked
for hire, shall be $10.00 per annum.
Section 31: Contractors are either general contractors
or sub -contractors. A general contractor shall be construed
to be a person natural or artificial, who enters into
contracts to construct buildings or structures of any kind
in the City of Azusa for a contract price thereof or for a
percentage of its cost, where the value of such structure
when completed or the contract price thereof shall be more
than $25.00
A subcontractor shall be construed to be person,
natural, or artificial, who shall enter into contracts with
a general contractor to construct any portion of a building
or structure, and which. shall embrace roofing contractors,
rig -builders, brickmasons, tile setters cement or concrete
workers, or any other trade or craft, not including
plumbers or electricians here otherwise licensed.
The rate of license for either a general contractor
or a subcontractor shall. be the sum of $50.00 per annum.
Section 32: The rate of license for conducting the
business of a restaurant, cafe, lunch counter, cafeteria,
shall be $12.00 per annum.
Section 33: The rate of license for every show,
concert, theatre or similar entertainment conducted or
presented within the City of Azusa, the sum of $12.00
per annum, except as herein otherwise provided.
Section 34: The rate of license for every circus
or menagerie exhibited within the City of Azusa. the sum of
50.00 per day, and for every sideshow connected therewith
the sum of $15.00 per day if a separate admission fee is
charged to such sideshow.
Section 35: The rate of license for every creamery
operating conducted or maintained in the City of Azusa
shall be 412.00 per annum.
Section 36: The rate of license for conductirlg or
maintaining the business of soliciting or canvassing or
taking orders for any goods, wares or merchandise, and
not having a regularly established nd fixed place of business
in the City of Azusa duly licensed hereunder, .or not as
agent or representative of such regularly established
place of business, the sum of 05.00 per day or 6100.00
per year, and each such person shall, in addition thereto,
execute the bond required in Section 123 of this Ordinance
in the sum of „$300.00 and deliver the same to the City Clerk
of the City of Azusa; provided, however, that nothing
contained herein shall be deemed to regulate or apply to any
interstate commerce or business.
Section 37: The rate of license for conducting or
maintaing the business of cleaning or pressing clothes, or
both, by any person having a permanent place of business
in the City of Azusa, is hereby fixed at $12.00 per year.
For carrying on the business of soliciting or collecting
clothes to be cleaned or dyed when not done as a part

of and incidental to a business for which a license is held
hereunder per annum $50.00.
Section 38: The rate of license for managing, con-
ducting, or carryinZ on the business of a public dance hall,
is hereby fixed at 5.00 per day.
Section 39: the rate of license for conducting or
carrying on the business of dancing academy, which is
defined as a place where dancing is taught for a condiderati.on,
is hereby fixed at $10.00 per annum.
Section 40: The rate of license for conducting or
operating the business of drug store is hereby fixed at
$12.00 per annum, this license shall not include the right
to sell sandwiches, lunches or meals.
Section 41: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of electric wiring,
or doing any work for which an electric permit is required,
is hereby fixed at $50.00 per annum. This license shall
include the right to sell electric fixtures and appliances,
materials, radio sets and parts, at retail.
Section 42:: The rate of license for conducting the
business of employment agency or bureau shall be $25.00 per
annum.
Section 43: The rate of license for conducting or
maintaining a warehouse or storehouse in the City of Azusa,
where fertilizer is stored and from which fertilizer is sold
or distributed to comsumers, per annum..$25.00
Section 44: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of bowling alley is
hereby fixed at X12.00 per annum, for each alley, whether
the same be used or not, and for carrying on the business
of boxball game or alley for each such game or alley the sum
of $5.00 per annum whether the same be used or not.
Section 45: The rate of license for conducting the
business of florist is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 46: The rate of license for carrying on or
managing a towel service business, $12.00 per annum.
"Towel Service Business" is defined as dealing in washing,
ironing or exchanging towels for compensation, directly or
indirectly.
Section 47: The rate of license for conducting or
carrying on the business of garage shall be $12.00 per annum.
Said license shall. include auto -repair work and automobile
accessory business.
Section 48: The rate of license for operating, con-
ducting, or maintaining the business of hotel or lodging
house shall be based upon the number of rooms contained in
such hotel or lodging house, and for each such hotel or
lodging house having thirty (30) rooms or more the license
fee shall be $15.00 per annum; and for all hotels or lodging
houses containing fewer than thirty (30) room $10.00 per Annum.
Every hotel, lodging house, or apartment house where-
in rooms are rented to the public in general shall keep and
maintain a register in the office thereof in open view and
subject to public inspection, wherein each lodger or guest
shall be required to set forth in his or her envn hand
writing his or her name and. permanent place of address before
going to or being permitted to occupy any such rooms or room
or apartment.

Section 49: The rate of license for carrying on or
maintaining the business of house moving is hereby fixed at
9$15.00 per annum.
Every person desiring to engage in the business of
house moving shall, before receiving a license .for said
business, execute and deliver to the City Clerk the bond
required by Section 123 of this Ordinance in the sum of
01000.00.
Each application for license to conduct said business
shall be accompanied by a statement in writing, giving the
name and address of the person, firm or corporation making
said application, the address of such, person, firm or
corporation, a statement of the number of years engaged in
said house moving business, the designation of the last
place where such applicant was engaged in said business,
and such other matters as the Building Inspector may
require.
Such house mover must comply with all conditions
laid down in the Ordinances of the City of Azusa and must
repair and make good all damage or injuries caused by the
moving of any house or structure.
A permit shall be obtained from the Building Inspector
before moving any building the fee to be ap paid for such
permi.t is hereby fixed at X2.50. Each application shall
specifically state the route to be taken, and the permit shall
limit the time for the removing, and any delay of time
longer than specified in such permit shall. be deemed a
nuisance and a violation of this Ordinance.
At the time of the issuance of said permit the
applicant shall also pay to the Building.Inspector the sum
of $5.00 for the first day and 9$2.50 for each additional day
during which such removal is limited.
Where a building is to be moved from one part of a
lot to another part of the same lot, or from one lot to
another lot owned by the same person, and without crossing
any street, alley or property of any other person the
owner must first obtain a written consent of the wilding
Inspector to change the location of such.bui.lding and such
consent shall not be granted where there is reasonable ob-
jection on the part of the property owner adjoining, and the
fee for such permit shall be 9$2.50 and services of a licensed
housemover will not be required in such case.
Section 50: The rate of license for carrying on the
business of selling, peddling or delivering ice from a wagon
of other vehicle for each such wagon or vehicle used in said
business the sum of U8.00 per annum is hereby fixed; provided,
that no person having a fixed ^nd established ice business
in the City of Azusa shall be required to pay a separate
license for the operation of one or more wagons or vehicles
used by him for the purpose of .delivering ice upon order
received at his said place of business.
Section 51: The rate of license for carrying on or
conducting the business of manufacturing and selling ice in
the City of Azusa is hereby fixed at $18.00 per annum.
Section 52: The rate of license for conducting,
managing, or carrying on the business of tin -smith or
sheet metal works is hereby fixed at 4$12.00 per annum.

Sec Section 53: The rate of license for the business of
junk collector shall be $12.00 per annum.
The rate bf license for the business of junk dealer
shall be $15.00 per annum.
Section 54: The rate of license for operation of a
laundry is hereby fixed at $18.00 per annum.
Section 54-A: The rate of license for conducting
or carrying on a laundry in the City of Azusa, other than
a steam laundry, equipped or partly equipped with machinery
for laundry purpose, per annum 84.00.'
Section 54-B: For conducting or operating a vehicle
for the collection or delivery of laundry work, when not
operated as a part or incidental to an established laundry
in the City of Azusa for which a license is held hereunder,
per month 15.00.
Section 54-C: The rate of license for operating or
maintaining an agency for collection or delivery of laundry
when not operated as a part or incidental to an established
laundry in the City of Azusa for which license is hereunder
held, per annum.,$60.00.
Section 55: The rate of license for ennducting,
managing, or carrying on the business of a livery or sales
stable is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 56: The rate of license for conducting the
business of lumber ,yard and planing mill shall be $18.00 per
annum.
Section 57: The rate of license for carrying on the
business of pawn broker shall be $100.00 per annum.
Section 58: The conducting and carrying on of wholesale
or retail establishments, stores, or places of business of
every kind and description not otherwise provided for in this
Ordinance, where articles of personal property for use or
consumption are loaned, rented, let, served or sold as a
business, shall be known and designated as a general business,
and the license for conducting the same shall be designated
a general business license; provided however, that where a
general business .license is granted, the holder thereof,
shall not have the right to conduct a restaurant in
connection with or as a part of such general business, with-
out procuring the restaurant license provided for in this
Ordinance, and provided further, that where a general business
license is issued and the business conducted thereunder
consists in the selling of fruits, confectionery, groceries,
dry -goods, hardware, and the other articles of general
merchandise or the loaning or the renting of fishing tackle,
or other articles of personal property, the holder of the
general. business license to so conduct such general business
shall not have the right to conduct in connection therewith
a restaurant or lunch counter without procuring the
restaurant license provided for in this Ordinance; provided
that the holder•of any general business license who shall in
connection therewith, engage in any other trade, business,
calling or occupation for which a license is imposed by this
Ordinance, then he shall pay the additional license required
by this Ordinange.
Section 59: Every place of business opened, established,
conducted, managed or carried on under the terms provided for
in Section 58 of this Ordinance concerning general business
licenses shall be deemed either a permanent or a temporary
place of business, as that term is used. herein, is defined to
be and shall be construed to mean any general business that
is opened, established, and carried on and conducted in the
City of Azusa at the date this Ordinance takes effect, and
also any business opened, established, conducted, managed /

and carried on therein after this Ordinance shall take
effect, when the same shall have been opened, established,
conducted, managed and carried on for a period. of six (6)
consecutive months. Every general business opened,
established, conducted, managed or carried on which is not
a permanent business as that term is defined in this section,
shall be construed to be a temporary business.
Section 59: Every place of business opened, established,
conducted, managed. or carried on under the terms provided for
in Section 58 of this Ordinance concerning general business
licenses shall he deemed either a permanent or a temporary
place of business. A permanent place of business, as that
term is used terein, is defined to be and shall be construed
to mean any general business that is opened, established, and
carried on and conducted in the City of Azusa at the date
this Ordinance takes effect, and also any business opened,
established, conducted, managed and carried on therein after
this Ordinance shall. take effect, when the same shall have
been opened, established, conducted, managed and carried on
for a period of six (6) consecutive months. Every general
business opened, established, conducted, managed or carried
on w hick is not a permanent business, as that term is defined
in this section, shall be construed to be a temporary business.
The rate of license for a permanent business shall
be ;$12.00 per annum, and the rate of license for a temporary
business shall be $300.00 per annum, each payable in advance;
provided, that any persnn, firm, or corporation engaging
in any business which under the terms of this section would
constitute a temporary business, may, in lieu of paying
the $300.00 license provided for a temporary business pay
the license of $$12.00 provided for a permanent business,
and at the same time execute and file with the Clerk of the
City of Azusa a bond in the sum of $$400.00 with two good and
sufficient sureties, approved by the Chief of Police in
his capacity as tax and license collector, the same to be
conditioned that the licensee will remain in business for
a period of six consecutive months from the date of such
license, or pay the temporary business license less the amount
paid on filing the said bond.
Section 60: The rate of license for operating,
managing or carrying on the business of maching shop is
hereby fixed at $10.00 per annum.
Section 61: The rate of license for running or
operating a milk wagon or vehicle shall be $36.00 per annum
for each such wagon or vehicle.
Section 62: The rate of license for conducting a
meat market is hereby fixed at $1;12.00 per annum.
Section 63: The rate of license for carrying on or
conducting a newspaper agency for the regular delivery of
such papers, per annum $$4.00
Section 64: Every individual ped,91ing any goods;
wares or merchandise not otherwise specified. in this
Ordinance shall pay a license tax of $6.00 per day, or
$$100.00 per year, which shall include the use of one
vehicle, and, in addition thereto, the sum of $$2.00 per day,
or $25.00 per year, for each additional vehicle used in such
peddling.
Every individual applying for a license for peddling,
as get forth in the last preceding paragraph, shall, before
said license is issued, deposit frith. the City Clerk a personal
or surety bond in the amount of $200.00 in accordance with
the requirements of Section 123 of this Ordinance.

Section 65: Every person peddling any drugs or
medicine, or going ,from place to place or from house to
house in the City of Azusa distributing, selling or giving
away any drugs or medicines, or any sample or samples of
any drugs or medicines, shall pay a license tax ?100.00 per
year.
It shall be unlawful to peddle any drug or medicine,
or to go from place to place, or from house to house in the
City of Azusa distributing, selling or giving away any
drugs or medicine, or any sample or samples of any drugs or
medicine without first procuring a permit from the City
Health Officer so to do; provided, however, that the City
Health Officer may, if upon examination he shall determine
that such drug or medicine is non-poisonous, harmless and
not dangerous to life or health, file his statement 9.n writing
to that effect with the City Clerk prior to the issuance
eg of the license hereunder.
Section 66: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of a peddler of
flags, banners, toy balloons, horns, trumpets, musical or
noise making instruments of any '.rind., toys, bags, buttons,
shoe strings, hair pins, lead pencils, combs, or souvenirs
of' other novelties of any kind is hereby fixed at 9$5.00
per day, or $50.00 per year.
Section 67: The rate of license for engaging in or
carrying on the business of peddling, either on foot or
by vehicle, of any fruits, flowers, nursery stock, vegetables,
pickled goods, preserves, jams, jellies, honey, candy, gum,
nuts, ice cream, tamales, box lunches, potato chips,
popcorn, poultry, dairy products (except milk) meats,
sea products, lubricating oil is hereby fixed at $50.00
per annum, or $2.00 per day, which license tax shall include
the use of any vehicle, and in addition thereto an annual
license tax of $20.00 or $1..00 per day is hereby fixed for
each additional vehicle used in such peddling.
No license shall be required of any individual
peddling any vegetables, fruits, nuts, meats, flowers,
nursery stock, poultry or dairy products raised or
produced by the individual peddling the same, or any sea
products caught by the individual peddling the same.
Section 68: The rate of license for conducting the
business of a parking place or station, and which is defined
to be a place or station at which automobiles are received.
for the purpose of being park&d for hire, shall be as follows:
If the place or station in which automobiles are parked will
accommodate less than twenty automobiles, 9$10.00 per
annum,; if the place or space in which automobiles are
arked will. accommodate more than twenty automobiles,
20.00 per annum.
Section 69: The rate of license for engaging in,
maintaining or carrying on the business of plumbing or
house drainage affecting the sanitary condition of any
house or building situated within the City of Azusa, is
hereby fixed. at X50.00 per annum.
Section 70: The rate of license for conducting
t a photograph gallery shall be x$12.00 per annum.
Section 71: The rate of license for conducting
the business of publishing a newspaper or conducting a
printing business shall be $12.00 per annum.
Section 72: The rate of license for conducting,
managing, or carrying on the business of wood, coal, fuel,
feed, or milling is hereby fixed at }$18.00 per annum.
Section 73: The rate of license for conducting,
managin, or carrying on the business of renting ponies is
hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.

Section 74: The rate of license for maintaining,
carrying on or operating the business of renting automobiles
is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 75: The rate of license for conducting,
managing, or carrying on the business of a shooting gallery
is hereby fixed at $4.00 per month or $24.00 per annum.
Section 76: The rate of license for conducting,
operating, for managing the business of a skating rink is
hereby fixed at $29'.00 per annum.
Section 77: The rate of license for conducting or
carrying on a carnival street fair or fiesta, per day
$50.00, provided, that no such license shall be issued
without a permit therefor be first obtained from the City
Council of said City of Azusa, which permit the said Council,
may, in their descretion, grant or deny.
Section 78: A lunch stand or street kitchen shall
be construed to mean a stand or kitchen at which prepared
food is sold or food is cooked for immediate sale, and the
lunch stand or street kitchen is portable and so constructed.

The rate of license for each such lunch stand or.
street kitchen is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum; provided,
that no such lunch stand or street kitch.en .shall receive
license except upon permit of the City Council.
Section 79: The rate of license for carrying on
the business of shoe shining stand or boo's black stand is
hereby fixed at $4.00 per annum, when not connected with
other business for which a license is hereunder held.
Section 80: The rate of license for maintaining
or carrying on the business of sign painting is hereby fixed
at $12.00 per annum; provided that this provision shall
not apply to persons painting or posting signs on bill
boards owned and maintained by them as an advertising
medium for a fee within the City of Azusa.
Section 81: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or operating an automobile service station is
hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 82: The rate of license for conducting,
maintaining and operating an undertaking, embalming or
funeral directing business is hereby fixed at $25.00 per annum.
Section 83: The rate of license for conducting or
carrying on the business of acetylene or electricIl welding
is hereby fixed at $25.00 per annum.
Every person, firm or corporation engaged in said
business of acetylene or electri.cil welding shall at all
times maintain adequate screens around and about and over
any and all acetylene and electric torches used by him, her,
they or it in the welding blzsiness so as to obscure from
public view the flame of such acetylene -or electric torch
or. torches �rhen in operation.
Section 84: For every person, firm or corporation
engaged in the business of running a tank wagon or other
wagon or vehicle for hauling, peddling, or delivering
distillate,lga.soline, refined oil, the sum of $18.00
per annum, which license shall include the use of two such
tank wagons or other vehicles so run or operated, provided,
for each a,'ditional wagon or vehicle an additional license
of $3.00 per annum.

Section 85: For every person, firm or corporation
operating any cart, dray wagon, automobile, truck or vehicle
for the transportation of freight material, goods, wares
or merchandise for hire when not incidental to a business
for which a license is otherwise held under this Ordinance,
for each vehicle, td -wit:
For each vehicle propelled by motor power not
exceeding two tons capacity, per annum $6.00 for each
vehicle so propelled exceeding two tons capacity, per
annum $8.00; per each such vehicle so propelled exceeding
four tons capacity, per annum $12.00, for each vehicle without
motor power per annum A4.00.
Section 86: The rate of license for conducting or
carrying on the business of a jewelry shop including the
jewelry repair business where said business is conducted
as a retail. business, is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 87: The rate of license for operating,
conducting or managing the business of auto paint shop,
is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 88: The rate of license for managing,
operating or conducting the business of cobbling or shoe
repairing, which is hereby defined to be the business of
altering or repairing any or all kinds of shoes, boots,
or other footwear, is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 89: The rate.of license for managing,
conducting or carrying on the business of warehouse or
maintaining a place for the purpose of keeping or storing
goods, wares or merchandise for hire shall. be $12.00 per
annum.
Section 90: The rate of license for operating and
conducting a fruit and vegetable stand, or fruit stand or
vegetable stand is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 90-A: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of selling any kind
of fruit, vegetables, goods, wares or merchandise from a
vehicle, other than a peddler, and having no fixed place of
business in the City of Azusa, for each vehicle per annum, $25.00
Section 91: The rate of license for the business of
collecting money or accounts, notes, claims or demands for
a compensation or commission and for and from the general
public is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum; provided, that
the provisions of this section shall not apply to regularly
licensed and practicing attorneys at law.
Section 92: The rate of .license for carrying on or
conducting or managing the business of second hand furniture,
or new and second hand furniture, or second hand or new and
second hand household goods, furniture, fixtures„ trappings,
is hereby fixed at '12.00 per annum.
Section 93: The rate of license for managing,
conducting, or carrying on the business of second hand
clothing is hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 94: The rate of license for managing,
conducting, or carrying on the business of sere selling,
offering for sale or otherwise handling by special retail
sale, the stock in trade of any bankrupt or insolvent person
the sum of $25.00 per day.
Section 95: The rate of license for carrying on,
operating or conducting the business of tailor shop is
hereby fixed at $12.00 per annum.
Section 96: The rate of license for managing,
conducting or carrying on the business of selling, offering

for sale, dealing in, renting, leasing or otherwise
handling second hand automobiles, trucks or other motor
vehicles is hereby fixed at $24.00 per annum; provided that
the provisions of this section shall not apply to auto
agencies or dealers engaged in the business of selling,
handling, or offering for sale new automobiles, trucks
or other motor vehicles who take second hand motor vehicles
in trade.
Section 97: The rate of license for carrying on the
business of operating, maintaining or leasing bill boards,
when not incidental to or a part of a business for which
a license is held hereunder, per annum A100.00, provided
that no such license shall be issued without a permit therefor
being first obtained from the City Council of the pity of
Azusa, which permit the said City Council, may in their
descretion, grant or deny.
Section 98: The rate of license for carrying on
the business of distributing samples or circulars in the
City of Azusa, when not incidental to or done as a part of
a business for which a license is held as provided in this
ordinance, per annum ;p25.00.
Section 99: The rate of license for canvassing,
selling, peddling or advertising any book or set of
books, magazines or other literature, when not done as a
part of or incidental to a business for which a license
is held under. this Ordinance, per day $5.00.
Section 100: The rate of license for soliciting
subscriptions for any newspaper when not incidental to a
business for which a license is otherwise Pg required under
this ordinance, per day $5.00.
Section 101: The rate of license for soliciting
subscriptions for a newspaper when such solicitor is
competing with one or more solicitors for a prize offered
by such newspaper, per month, x,10.00.
Section 102: The rate of license for carrying on
the business of repairing motorcycles and bicycles, or either
thereof, per annum 1342.00
Spetion 103: The rate of license for conducting
or carrying on the business of a cigar store, per annum ;8.00.
Section 104: The rate of license for carrying on
the business fo selling fish and meat, or either thereof,
from a vehicle, for each such vehicle, per annum $40.00
Section 105: The rate of license for conducting
or carrying on a merry-go-round or circular swing for
hire, per week, p15.00.
Section 106: The rate of license for conducting
or carrying on the business of selling, distributing or
delivering goods, wares or merchandise from any railway car
or cars to any person when not done as a part of or incidental
to a business for which a license is held under ordinance,
per day ;20.00.
Section 107: The rate of license for carrying
on the business of dealing in medicines or the businesse
of treating diseases of the human body, by any person who
calls attention to his wares or method of treatment or
advertises the same by the use of music, entertainment,
speech or other device, per day, ;$10.00
Section 108: The rate of license for conducting or
operating a packing house where fruit is Tacked .for sale
or shipping per annum, $25.00.

Section 109: The rate of license for carrying
on or conducting the business of peddling sandwiches, ice
cream, peanuts, candy -or any food articles of any description,
from hand cart, -stand, tray, basket or receptacle thus
employed, per annum 4 .00.
Section 110: The rate of license for carr ring on the
business of soliciting orders for paintings, pictures,
portraits, photographs, or orders for advertising, or
selling or distributing coupons or certificates purporting
to be of commercial value, or selling or soliciting
subscriptions to the stock of any corporation, when not
incidental to carrying on any store or fixed place of
business in the City of Azusa, for which a license is held
hereunder, per day $10.00.
Section 11.1: The rate of license for c(,nducting
or carrying on the business of vaudeville or theatre,
including moving picture theatre, per annum $'25.00.
Section 112: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of selling goods,
wares or merchandise by means of vending machines .located
in, upon over or along any public street, alley or other
public place, per annum $25.00.
Section 113: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on a boxing or wrestling exbibitdLon
to which admittance is charged, $20.00 for each exhibition.
Section 114: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of grinding or sharpen-
ing scissors, knives cutlery or mechanical tools when the
person conducting such business travels from place to
place or house to house, and operates by means of any
wagon or other vehicle, X8.00 per annum for each vehicle.
When operating on foot $4.00 per annum.
Section 115: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on the business of a clothing, watch
or jewelry club, per month dP20.00.
Section 116: The rate of license for conducting
and carrying on the business of pumps and wells for pumping
water for sale is hereby fixed in the sum of $50.00 per
annum for each well.
Section 117: The rate of license for a nursery
is hereby fixed in the sum of $12.00 per annum.
Section 118: The rate of license for carrying on
or conducting a rabbi#ery where rabbits are raised or kept
for sale is hereby fixed as follows:
(a) For every rabbitery having no less than fifty
nor more than 150 rabbits, the sum of „6.00 per annum.
(b) For every rabbitery of more than 150 rabbits,
the sum of ,p12.00 per annum.
Section 119: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on a hennery where chickens or fouls are
raised or kept for sale is hereby fixed as follows.:
(a) For each hennery of from one hundred to five
hundred hens or foul is hereby fixed at 06.00 per annum.

Section 120: The rate of license for conducting,
managing or carrying on a Loan Business when not connected
with a Bank holding a license under this Ordinance, is
