HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 283r r ORDINANCE NO. 283 AN ORDINANCE OF TILE CITY OF AZUSA REGULATING THE CONDUCT- ING OF BOXING CONTESTS AND SPARRING EXHIBITIONS AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE. The City Council of the City of Azusa do ordain as follows: Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, corporation, association or club to give, hold or conduct any boxing contests or sparring exhibitions without a permit in writing therefore first being obtained from the City Council of the City of Azusa. Every such applicant for any such permit shall file with the Clerk of the City of Azusa, a written•applica- tion 'therefore which shall state the time or ties when and place where the proposed boxing contests or sparring exhibi- tions are to be held or conducted and the name and. adaress of the applicant. Section 2: Every permit granted by the City Council shall specify as a condition to the issuance thereof that the same may be revoked by. said Council at any time prior to the termination thereof, if, in its opinion, the conducting of said contest or exhibition is detrimental to the people, peace, health or safety of V>e inhabitants of the City of Azusa. Section 3: It shall be 1,nlawful for any person, firm, corporation, a,sociatior_ or club owning or having charge or control of any room, building, place or premises to keep or perm,t such room, building place or premises to be let or to be used or occupied, in whole or in part, for holding or con- ducting any boxing contests or sparring exhibitions, unless a permit therefore has been obtained frrm the City Council as provided in Section 1 of this ordinance. Section 4: Any person, firm, corporation, association or club violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall. be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $200 (Two Hundred Dollars) or by imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not exceeding two months, or by both such fine' and imprisonment. Section 5: If any section, sub -section, sentence, clause or phrr.se of this ordinance is for any reason held to be un- constitutional or invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the ren?l ni_ng portions of this ordinance. The City Council hereby declares that it would have passed this ordinance and each section, sub -section, sentence, clause or phrase thereof irrespective of the .fact that any one or more of the sections, sub -sections, sentences, clauses or phrases be declared unconstitutional or invalid. Section 6: That the Cil -y Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall. cause the same to be published`in one regular issue of the Azusa Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, established, printed and published in.the City of Azusa. -1- r I hereby certify that the foregoing ordinance was duly passed by the City Counoil of the City of Azusa at a regular adjourned meeting held May 13, 1929, by the following vote of the City Council: AYES: Councilmen: Johnson, Mace, Muche, Meier.
