E. In any box and any combination of
sizes not mentioned, two cubic inches shall be pro-
vided for each No. 12 or smaller wire, and propor-
tionately more for larger sizes of wire in the same
ratio as the area of the cross section of wiro and
insulation of such larger size wire bears to the
area of the cross section of wire and insulation of
No. 12 vrire. Should it be desired to increase the
number of wires allowed to a box by the use of an
extension ring, three cubic inches shall be provided
for each No. 12 wire or smaller and proportionately
more for larger sizes of wire in the same ratio as
the area of the cross section of wire and insulation
of such larger sized wir e bears to the area of the
cross section of wire and insulation of No. 12 wire
and one or more of the conduits shall be brought into
the extension ring.
F. In general, outlet and pull boxes
shall be of such size as to accommodate with ease
all wires and devices installed therein.

chain or chord, or by pendent switches constructed
13 of porcelain or other suitable insulating material.
All insulators in chain pulls shall be placed not
14 more than one inch from socket or fixture. Key
sockets and brass shell pendant switches will be
15 permitted in such locations if the shells are per -
16 manently and effectively grounded.
Miall switches within five feet of
17 conducting surfaces shall have an insulating plate
or cover or shall be permanently and effectively
18 grounded.
19 B. Fixtures and Facture Supports.
20 Each outlet for fixture shall be
provided with a fixture stud or equivalent approved
21 device, fastened to the box by means of stove bolts
or other approved method; except ceiling outlets in
22 the kitchai, bath, and screen porch, and all bracket
lights.
23
All fixtures shall be provided with
24 slip canopies, except those to be used in connection
with ceiling pans, plaster rings and similar devices,
25 where it is manifestly impracticable to do so. Fix-
ture supports shall in all cases be of adequate
26 mechanical strength and security. All fixtures shall
be supported from the outlet box studs or equivalent
27 fittings or by metal straps fastened to the studs
or lugs in the boxes except in old work (fished in
28 jobs) where brackets may be supported by suitable
:rood screws screwed into lath or by metal straps
29 screwed to lath with fixtures attached to straps by
machine screws or supported by wooden base blocks,
30 at least 4 inch thick, securely screwed to lath.
Where the fixture is a special type which cannot
31 be supported except by wood screws they may be used
if permission is obtained in advance in writing.
32 ?'there straps are used, fixtures shall be fastened to
them by machine screws, stove bolts, or other approv-
ed method.

used for the support of sockets fitted with enclosing
globes or bowls.
Section 19. HEATERS.
A. Portable heating appliances-shallnot
be used on any circuits operating at more than 300
volts between conductors. Heating appliances which
have bare elements or other bare current carrying
parts exposed to accidental contact shall not be ussd
on any circuit.operating at more than 150 volts to
ground. Heatin g appliances which are fixed as to
location and have no bare elements or other bare
current carrying parts exposed to accidental contact
may be used on circuits of not more than 600 volts
between conductors.
Any heating appliance rated at more
than 2,000 watts shall be wired for 220 volts and
where the voltage to ground exceeds 150 volts the
wires to such heating appliances shall be installed
in metal conduit. If such heating appliance is
portable the receptacle shall be of suitable capacity.
B. Two or more fixed air heating.appli-
ances requiring not more than 35 amperes per conductor
may be installed on each three -wire 110-220 volt heat-
er circuit, or on each three prase 220 volt heater
circuit providing the tap from such circuit to the
heating appliance shall in no case be less than No.

4 conductors are suspended.
Except when written permission has
5 been granted in advance by said Electrical Inspector
6 the aerial shall not be suspended over light, power
