AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA,
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,
A';ENDING SECTIOIi 1 (C), SECTION 1 (D)
AND SEC^_•ION 2 OF ORDINANCE N0. 326
OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA, RELATING TO
LICENSING FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVEI.UE
AND REGULATION ALL AND EACH KIND OF
BUSINESS CARRIED ON IN SAID CITY AND
PRESCRI3ING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION
The City Council of the City of Azusa does
ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That Section 1 (C) of Ordinance
Ido. 326 of the City of Azusa, without disturbing,
limiting or amending any of the other paragraphs or
provisions of said section or of said ordinance, shall
be, and the same is hereby, amended to read as follows:
(C) "Peddler" shall be construed
to mean and include any person who goes
from house to house, or from place to
place, or in or along any street, alley,
sidewalk or other public highway or any
public way, within the City of Azusa,
selling and making immediate delivery, or
offering for sale and immediate delivery,
or soliciting orders for the sale and
Immediate delivery, to persons other than
manufacturers, wholesalers, jobbers or
retailers of such commodities, of any
goods, wares, merchandise or other thing
of value in possession of such person, or
soliciting orders for any services to be
performed immediately. And in addition to
and without limiting the definition heretofore
set forth in this sub -section, "Peddler" shall
also be construed to mean and include any
person,who by m^ through communications
over the telephone or by any other electrical
means or device, or by any loud speaker,
or by telegraph or messenger service, to various
persons located within the City of Azusa,
solicits orders for the sale and immediate
delivery in said city, to persons other than
manufacturers, wholesalers, jobbers, or re-
tailers of such commodities, of any goods,
wares, merchandise or other thing of value
in possession of such person , or solicits
orders for any services to be performed
immediately, whenever the aforesaid sale or
delivery of goods, wares, merchandise or other
thing of value in possession of such person,
or the aforesaid immediate performance of
se vices, or the soliciting of any orders
for any of the same, are, are to be, or have
been aided, asaisted, furthered, accompanied,
carried out, consummated, or followed up, by
or through the use by such person of any street,
alley, sidewalk, or other public highway, or
any public way, within the City of Azusa.
SECTION 2. That Section 1 (D) of Ordinance No. 326
of the City of Azusa, without disturbing, limitin or amending
any of the other paragraphs or provisions of said section or
of said ordinance, shall be, and the same is hereby, amended to
read as follows:
(D) "Solicitor" shall be construed to mean and
include any person who goes from house to house,
or from place to place, or in or along any
street, alley, sidewalk or other public highway,
or any public way, withinthe City of Azusa,
soliciting or taking orders from persons other
than manufacturers, wholesalers, jotbess or retail-
ers of such commodities, for the sale or purchase
of any goods, wares, merchandise or thing of value, for
future delivery, or soliciting or taking orders
from any person for services to be performed in the
future. And in addition to and without limiting
the definition heretofore set forth in this sub -section,
"Solicitor" shall also be construed to mean and in-
clude any person, who by or through communications
over the telephone or by any other electrical means
or device, or by any loud speaker, or by telegraph
or messenger service, to various persons within the
City of Azusa, solicits orders from such persons other
than manufacturers, wholesalers, jobbers, or retailers
or such commodities, for the purchase or sale of any
goods, wares, merc;iandise or other thing of value
for future delivery, or solicits orders from any
persons for services to be performed in the future,
whenever the aforesaid purchase or sale of goods, wares
merchandise, or other thing of value for future de-
livery, or the aforesaid services to be verformed
in the future,or the soliciting of any orders for
any of the same, are, are to be, or have been aided,
assisted, furthered, accompanied, carried out, con-
summated, or followed up by or throughthe use, by
such person of any street, alley, sidewalk, or other
public highway, or any public way, within the City
of Azusa.
SECTION 3. That Section 2 of Ordinance No. 326 of the
City of Azusa, without disturbing, limiting or amending any of the
other sections of said ordinance, shall be, and the same is hereby*
amended to read as follows:
SECTIOiT 2. LICENSE REQUIRED.
It shall be unlawful for any person, whether
as principal or agent, clergy; or employee, either
for :himself or for any other person, or otherwise,
to commence or to carry on any kind of lawful
business in the City of Azusa without in advance
having procured a license from said City so
to do and without complying with any and all reg-
ulations of such business contained in this ordinance
and in any other ordinance or ordinances in effect at
the time, unless exempt in accordance with the terms
of such ordinance or ordinances, provided
however, that no person, except
a peddler or solicitor, who is an
employee or the direct representative
of a business, which business pays the
required license fee to said City and
is named as licensee in an unr.evoked
license, shall be required to pay a
license fee to the City of Azusa, for
the doing, during the term of such un -
revoked license, of any pa:.•t of the
work of such business; provided further,
that none but a natural person shall be
eligible to apply for or to hold a
license as Peddler or Solicitor, or to
engage in the wort: or business of
peddling or soliciting, and provided
further, that if and when any part of
the work or business of any natural
person or persons, whether as an employee
or employees or otherwise, be that of
Peddler or Solicitor, then a separate
license shall be obtained by each of
said persons before doing or engaging
in the work or business of peddling or
soliciting.
SECTION 4. APPROVAL, ATTESTATION AND PUBLICATION
The 1.1ayor shall sign this Ordinance and the City
Clerk shall attest same and certify to the passage, adoption
and publication of the same and shall cause the same to
be published once, within fifteen days after its passage,
in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, a weekly newspaper
of general circulation published and circulated in the
City of Azusa, which said newspaper is hereby designated
for that purpose, and thereupon and thereafter thirty days
after its passage this Ordinance shall take effect and be
in f orce.
Passed, adopted and approved this 20th day of
September,1937.

duced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Azusa held on September 7,1937, in the regular
Council Chambars of said City Council in said City;
that said Ordinance was placed upon its first reading
at said regular meeting September 7,1937; that thereafter
said Ordinance was duly and regularly passed and adopted
by said Council, signed and approved by the
P:iayor and attested by the City Clerk of said
City at a regular meeting of said Council so
held in the regular Council Chambers at the
next regular meeting of said City Council on
September 20,1937, and that the same was passed
and adopted by the following vote of the Council:

I do further certify that I caused said
Ordinance to be published prior to the expiration
