HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 344ORDINANCE NO. 3-�I- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, REQUIRING TRAFFIC TO STOP BEFORE.ENTERING CERTAIN INTERSECTIONS; REQUIRING THE ERECTION OF STOP SIGNS AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION. The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. The following streets and parts of streets are hereby declared to constitute boulevards for the purpose of this section: Foothill Boulevard at the intersection of Vernon Avenue. Angeleno Avenue at the intersection of Crescent Drive, Ninth Street at the intersection of Angeleno Avenue. Ninth Street at the intersection of San Gabriel Avenue. Ninth Street at the intersection of Alameda Avenue. Ninth Street at the intersection of Dalton Avenue. Ninth Street at the intersection of Soldano Avenue. Ninth Street at the intersection of Pasadena Avenue. San Gabriel Avenue at the intersection of the alley from the west, just south of the right of tray of The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company. Foothill Boulevard at the intersection from the north, of the alley, which alley enters Foothill Boulevard from about midway between San Gabriel Avenue and Angeleno Avenue. SECTION 2. Every operator of a vehicle or street car approaching any boulevard shall bring such vehicle or street car to a full stop at the prolongation of the nearer property line of such t� 6ulev�ard, subject, however to the direction i of an! "stop" and "go" signal or police officer at such intersection. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this section shall for each violation thereof be declared guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction of any court of competent jurisdiction shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars or by imprisonment in the Azusa city jail or in the county jail of the county of Los Angeles for a period of not exceeding thirty days or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION 3. The chief of police of the City of Azusa is hereby authorized and required to place and maintain or to cause to be placed and maintained upon each and every street, or street car private right of way, intersecting a boulevard and at or near the property line of the boulevard, stop signs conforming to the requirements of the California Vehicle Code. SECTION 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance and heretofore passed and adopted by the City of Azusa or by the City Council or by any Board of Trustees thereof, shall be, and the same are, hereby repealed insofar as said other ordinances or parts of ordinances conflict or are incon- sistent with the provisions of this ordinance, which re- peal shall be effective as of the effective date of this ordinance. SECTION 5. The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and the City Clerk shall attest and certify to the passage, adoption and publication of the same, and shall cause aam's. 2. NX to be published once within fifteen days after its passage in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropie, a weekly newspaper of general circulation published and circu- lated in the City of Azusa, which said newspaper is hereby designated for that purpose, and thereupon and thereafter thirty days after its passage this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force.
