AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,
AMENDING SECTIONS 14, 16 and 19 OF ORDINANCE
NO. 154 OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED "AN
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROVIDING A
SYSTEM FOR THE ASSESSMENT, LEVY AND COLLECTION
OF TAXES PASSED THE 24th DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1914"
AND ALSO AMENDING SECTION 15 OF SAID ORDINANCE
#154 AS AMENDED BY SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE '#159
OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF
THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA
AMENDING SECTIONS 15, 28, 29, 30, 33 and 46 OF
ORDINANCE #154 OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA PROVIDING A SYSTE14 FOR THE ASSESSMENT,
LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES PASSED THE 24th
DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1914."
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain
as follows:
SECTION 1. That Section 14 of Ordinance #154 of the
said City of Azusa entitled "An Ordinance of the City of Azusa
providing a system for the assessment, levy and collection of
taxes" is hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION 14. The assessor shall when required by
the City Council of the City of Azusa, transmit to
said City Council on or before the let day of July of
each year, a verified report, separate from the assess-
ment roll, containing a complete list of all persons who
refuse or neglect to furnish a statement of their property,
as in this Ordinance provided, or to comply with the
provisions of this Ordinance, the amount of the assess-
ment upon the property of- such persons, with a s$ate-
ment of the particular facts if any upon which the
assessment has been made, and the valuation of the
property so assessed.
SECTION 't. Section 15 of Ordinance #154 entitled "An
Ordinance of the City of Azusa providing a system for the assess-
ment, levy and collection of taxes; as amended by Section 1 of
Ordinance #159 entitled"an Ordinance of the Board of Trustees of
the City of Azusa amending Sections 15, 282 29, 30, 33 and 46 of
Ordinance #154 of the Board of Trustees of the City of Azusa
entitled an Ordinance of the City of Azusa providing a system for
the assessment, levy and collection of taxes passed the 24th day of
February, 1914," is hereby amended to read as follows:

SECTION 15. Trt shall be the duty of the
assessor etween the first Monday in March and the
first day of July in each year to make out a true
list of all taxable property within the city. The
mode of making out said list and proceedings relat-
ing thereto shall be in conformity with the laws now
in force regulating County Assessors, except as the
same may be otherwise provided by ordinance, said
list shall describe the property assessed and the
value thereof and shall contain all other matters
required to be stated in such lists by the county
assessor. Said assessor shall verify said list by
his oath and shall deposit the same with the City
Clerk on or before the first day of July of each year.
Said assessor and his deputies shall have power to
administer all oaths and affirmations necessary in
the performance. of his duty. Immediately after said
list shall have been filed in the office of the said
City Clerk, said Clerk shall forthwith give notice
thereof and of the time and place wheresaid City
Council shall meet as a Board of Equalization to
equalize assessments, by publication in some news-
paper published and circulated in said city, if
there be one, and if there is no newspaper published
and circulated in said city, by causing notices
thereof to be posted in at least four public places
in said city and in the meantime the assessment last
or book must remain open for inspection by all persons
interested. If notice of the meeting of said Board of
Equalization is published in a newspaper, said notice
shall appear in at least two publications thereof
immediately prior to July 1st of each year. If said
notices are posted, said posting shall be at least
for a period of ten days immediately prior to July let
of each year.
SECTIO. Section 16 of Ordinance #154 of the said City
of Azusa entitled An Ordinance of the City of Azusa providing a
system for the assessment, levy and collection of taxesO is hereby
amended to read as follows:
SECTION 16. The City Council of the City of Azusa shall
meet at its usual place of holding meetings and shall
Sit as a Board of Equalization at the time of the first
regular meeting of said City Council in July and shall
continue in session from day to day until all the re-
turns of the assessor have been rectified, but not
later than the second Monday in July. They shall have
the power to hear complaints and to correct, modify or
strike out any assessment made by the assessor and may,
of its own motion, raise any assessment, upon notice to
the party whose assessment is to be raised. The corrected
list for each tax shall be the assessment roll for said
tax for said year. It shall be certified by the City
Clerk of the City who shall act as Clerk of the Board of
Equalization, as being the assessment roll for said, tax and
shall be the assessment roll upon which said tax is to be
levied in said year. The proceedings of the Board of
Equalization shall be governed by the provision of
Article 1 of Chapter 4 of Title 9 of Part 3 of the
Political Code of the State of California in so far as
said provisions are applicable and not inconsistent with
the provisions of this Ordinance.

SECTION .4. Section 19 of Ordinance #154 of the said
City of Azusaa enticed "An Ordinance of the City of Azusa providing
a system for the Assessment, Levy and Collection of Taxes" is
hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION 19. On the first Monday in September
of each year, the City Council shall levy the tax
to provide for raising the necessary revenue of the
City for the current fiscal year and shall by a
Resolution fix the rate of taxes, designate the number
of cents upon each $100.00 using as a basis the value
of property as it appears on the assessment roll for
that year which rate of taxation shall be sufficient
to raise sufficient revenue estimated to be required
to carry on the various departments of the city for
the current year, not to exceed 01.00 on each $100.00
of assessed valuation and to pay the bonded or other
indebtedness of the city. Having determined the whole
rate to be levied, the Board shall then levy the tax
to provide for raising the necessary revenue for the
city for the then fiscal year which said fiscal year
shall begin with the first day of July of each year and
shall end with the 30th day of June of the year next
following.
SECTION 5. The Mayor shall sign this Ordinance and the
City Clerk shall attest same and certify to the passage, adoption
and publication of the same and shall cause the same to be published
once, within fifteen days after its passage, in the Azusa Herald and
Pomotropic, a weekly newspaper of general circulation published and
circulated in the City of Azusa, which said newspaper is hereby
designated for that purpose, and thereupon and thereafter thirty
days after its passage this Ordinance shall take effect and be in
force.

Los Angeles County, California, do hereby certify that the fore-
going Ordinance was duly introduced at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of Azusa, held on the 6th day of May,
1940 in the regular Council Chambers of said City Council in said
City; that said Ordinance was placed upon its first reading at
said regular meeting May 6, 1940; that thereafter said Ordinance
was duly and regularly passed and adopted by said Council,
signed and approved by the Mayor and attested by said City Clerk
of said City at a regular meeting of said Council so held in the
regular Council. Chambers at the next regular meeting of said City
Council on the 20th day of May, 1940, and that the same was passed
and adopted by the following vote of the Council:
AYES: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Arnold, Ov,,ens,
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
I DO FURTHER CERTIFY that I caused said Ordinance to
be published prior to the expiration of fifteen..d.ays from the
passage thereof in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic on May 24, 1940
a newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated
in said City of Azusa, and that the some was published in accordance
with law.
