ORDINANCE 140. 360.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF .
AZUSA PROHIBITING PERSONS UNDER 17 YEARS OF AGE FROM
BEING ON THE PUBLIC STREETS, ALLEYS AND PUBLIC PLACES
IN THE CITY OF AZUSA AT NIGHT AFTER THE'HOUR OF 9
O'CLOCK P.M. AND PROHIBITING THE LOITERING OF PERSONS
UNDER THE AGE OF 17 YEARS AND PRESCRIBING THE PENALTIES
FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain
as follows4
SECTION 1. It is hereby made unlawful for any
person under 17 years of age to be or remain in or upon
any of the streets, alleys or public places in the City
of Azusa at night between the hours of 9 o'clock P.M.
and 5 o'Clock A. M. of the following day, unless such
person is accompanied by a parent, guardian or other
.persons having legal custody of such minor person, or
whose employment makes:it necessary to be upon such
streets, alleys or public places during the night time
after the hour specified.
In the event such minor person after
the hour specified shall be in or upon any of the
streets, alleys or public places in said City in pur-
suance of an errand of duty and directed by his or her
parent, guardian or other person having the care and
custody of such minor person, or shall be upon any of
the streets, alleys or public places, then such minor
shall provide himself or herself with a written permit
for the purpose, signed by his or her parent, guardian
or other person having the care and custody of such
minor person.
SECTION 2. It is hereby made unlawful for any
parent, guardian or other person having the legal care
and custody of a person under 17 years of age to allow
or permit such minor to go or be in or upon any of the
public streets, alleys or public places in the City of
Azusa, within the time prohibited in Section 1 of this
Ordinance unless there exists a reasonable necessity
therefor or unless the employment of such minor makes
it necessary for him or her to be upon such streets,
alleys or public places within the time prohibited by
Section 1 of this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. Any person violating the provisions
of Sections 1 or 2 of this Ordinance shall supon
convicition be fined 1n a sum not less than $1.00 nor
more than $15.00 for each offense and in the event such
fine shall not be paid, shall be imprisoned in the City
or County jail for a term of not to exceed 20 days or
by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION: 4. If any 'section,' subject; paragraph,
sentence or dlause of this ordinance is for any reason
held to be invalid; the 'City .Council hereby -declares that
had it known of the invalidity, of that portion'at the -time
of'its enactment, it would have.passed the remainder,of
this ordinance without the invalid portion and that it
is the intention of the City,Council that the remainder
Of this ordinance operate; in'the event of the invalidity
of.any portion of'this ordinance. '
SECTION: 5. The Mayor shall sign''this Ordinance and the
City Clerk shall attest the same and certify to the
passage, adoption and publication of the same -and shall
cause the .same to be published once, within -fifteen days
after its passage, in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, a
weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and
circulated in the City of Azusa, which said newspaper is
hereby designated for that purpose, and thereupon and
thereafter thirty days after its.passage this Ordinance
shall take,effect and be in force.

City of Azusa, do hereby certify that the foregoing
ofdinance was intruduced, placed upon it first reading
and rad at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Azusa, Los Angeles County, California,.duly and
regularly held June 2, 1941, in the regular Council -
Chambers in said City of Azusa, Los Angeles County,
California; that said ordinance was regularly passed and
by said City Council, signed by the Mayor and attested
adopted
by the City Clerk of said City at a regular meeting of said
City Council so held in the regular Council Chambers of
said City on the 16th day June, 1941 and that the same was
passed and adopted by the following vote of Council:
AYESs Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Arnold, Owens.
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
I, the City Clerk of the City of Azusa, do
further certify that I caused said ordinance to be
published on the 19th day of June, 1941, in the Azusa
Herald and Pomotropic, a newspaper of general circulation
printed, published and circulated in said City of Azusa
and that the same was published in accordance with law.
