ORDINANCE NO. 371
AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE BUILDING
CODE.
The City Council of the City of Azusa, California,
does ordain as follows:
f2ection 1: When the Chief Engineer finds that
a material, manner of construction or installa-
tion, is as safe and sanitary for use as that
required by that certain ordinance of this City
known and designated as Ordinance No. 346, and
complies with standards now or hereafter prescribed
by the United Stat4s War Production Board, or
other authorized Federal Agency, such material, man-
ner of construction or installation may be used
in lieu of that required by Ordinance No. 346 of the
City of Azusa.
Section 2: At.least once every month the Chief
Engineer shall file with the City Council a list
of all alternate types of construction and substi-
tute materials which have been approved by him
five or more days prior to the filing of the list
and not theretofore reported.
Section 3: This ordinance shall cease to be in
effect six months after the termination of the
present war. At such time said Ordinance No. 346
shall read as if this ordinance had never been
passed.
Section 4: A state of war exists in the United
States and by reason thereof many essential materials
are 'vitally needed in war industries and the War
Production Board has issued suggested standards
of housing whereby houses can. be built in both a
safe and sanitary manner without the undue use of
more essential war materials than is necessary.
Some of those standards are at variance with
those set forth in said Ordinance No, 346. If
this ordinance does not take immediate effect then
either defense hho.using in the City must come to
a standstill or vital war material needed for war
Industries must be unnecessarily wasted in the
construction of residences. By reason of the

foregoing facts this ordinance is urgently required
for the immediate preservation of thepublic peace,
health and safety and shall therefore take effect
immediately upon the passage thereof.
Section.5., The City Clerk shall attest to the
adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same
to be published once in the Azusa Herald & Pomotropic
within the time and in the manner provided by law;
and the same shall become effective immediately
upon the adoption and passage thereof.

ance was introduced and placed upon its first reading at a
regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Azusa,
County of Los Angeles, State of California, duly and
regularly held on the 18th day of May, 1942, in the regu-
lar Counell.Chambers in said City of Azusa, Los Angeles
County, California, that said Ordinance was regularly
passed and adopted by said City Council, signed by the
Mayor and attested by the City Clerk of said City at a
regular meeting of said City Council so held in the
regular Council Chambers on the 1st 'day of 'June ,
1942, and that the same was passed and adopted by the fol-
lowing vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden,
Jumper.
Noes: Councilmen: None
Absent: Councilmen: None
I, M. A. HYNES, City Clerk of the City of
Azusa, Los Anjeles County, State of California do further
certify that caused said Ordinance to be published on
the 4th day of June , 1942, in the Azusa
Herald and Pomotropic, a newspaper of general circulation,
printed, published and circulated in said City of Azusa,
and that the same was published in accordance with law.
