AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, COUNTY
3 OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
AMENDING FIRE PREVENTION ORDINANCE kO.
4 474 RELATIVE TO PERMISSIBLE HOURS FOR
BURNING.
5
r,
7 The City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby ordain
as follows:
8 SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 474 of the City of Azusa is
9 hereby amended by adding Section 3j thereto, said new section to
read:
10 SECTION 31. Hours for Burning. Not with..
11 standing any provision of this Code to the
contrary after the effective date of this
12 Ordinance and before February 10, 1955, no
person shall burn any combustible waste
13 material on any lot or parcel of land
except between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and
14 7:00 P. M. of any day.
15 SECTION 2. This ordinance is hereby declared to be
16 urgently required for the immediate preservation of the public
peace, health and safety, and shall take effect immediately upon
17 its publication or on November 12, 1954 which ever is first. The
following is a statement of facts showing its urgency:
18 The concentration of smog in the City of Azusa has reached
19 serious proportions. Various governmental agencies are studying
the smog situation. At the present time private incinerators are
20 operated between the hours of 5:00 o'clock A. M. and 9:00 o'clock
A. M. and 5:00 o'clock.P. M. and 9:00 o'clock P. M. of any day.
21 It is recognized that this is the period of the day when smog
appears to build up throughout the area. The smog from these
22 incinerators is thereby added to the other factors contributing
to the present smog condition. This ordinance would allow such
23 burning at a more favorable time of the day. For these reasons
this is declared to be an emergency ordinance.
24 SECTION 3. The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and the
25 City Clerk shall attest and certify to the passage and adoption
of the same and cause the same to be published once within fifteen
26 days after its passage in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, a
weekly newspaper of general circulation published and circulated
27 in the city of Azusa#
28Passed, adopted and approved this lot day of November, 1954.
