HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4797RESOLUTION NO. 4797 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA IN GRATEFUL TRIBUTE TO LAURA DURRELL JONES The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows: WHEREAS, with the passing on January 25, 1965, of Laura Durrell Jones, the City of Azusa and its neighboring communities suffered a grievous loss; and WHEREAS, for much of her 70 years in this area, Mrs. Jones devoted her splendid energies, in various capacities, to the education and training of children and of youth generally; and WHEREAS, she served with special distinction in the conduct and management of Azusa's official recreation program since its inception in 1949, and supplied unmatched leadership as Chairman of this City's Park and Recreation Commission over these many years; and WHEREAS, the present excellent quality and extent of Azusa's public recreation activities, and the well-planned expansion of its park system, are largely the result of the wisdom, sustained effort, unstinted devotion and unflagging pioneer spirit which she brought to her puplic service; and WHEREAS, it is fully recognized that her quiet labors in these fields, performed without ostentation and often with little recognition, have been of incalculable value to the people of our community; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of -Azusa, California, on its own behalf and as an expression of the feeling of all of our people, does here- by record the great respect and affection in which Laura Durrell Jones has long been held and will continue to be held in the years to come; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and shall cause a copy thereof to be sent to the next of kin of Laura Durrell Jones.
