RESOLUTION NO. 4794
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA OPPOSING ASSEMBLY BILL 300 IN THE 1965
LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill No. 300 has been introduced in the 1965
Legislature of the State which provides for the election of city and county
officers on a party or partisan basis, and
WHEREAS, the governments of the cities of California have been
the most able, honest, successful and uncorruptible municipal governments
in the nation, and
WHEREAS, this has largely been due to the fact that municipal
governments in this state are operated on a non-partisan basis, and
WHEREAS, it is to the best interest of municipal government that
municipal officers owe their allegiance only to the people of the city, and
to all the people of the city, and not to any political party or faction,
and
WHEREAS, municipal services have no relationship or relevancy
to the national or state-wide policies, principals and causes that divide
the political parties that exist in those levels of government, and
WHEREAS, the continued integrity, impartiality and high quality
of municipal government in this state depends upon its remaining non-partisan;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Azusa does
hereby strenuously and urgently oppose Assembly Bill 300 and does hereby
request all members of the State Legislature to oppose and defeat the said
bill in order to preserve the independence, high quality, integrity and
efficiency of city government within this state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to
the adoption of this resolution and transmit copies thereof to all members
of the Assembly representing the City of Azusa or any part thereof, to
