RESOLUTION NO. 4883
A RESOLUTION -OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4693 RELATING TO
JOB CLASSIFICATIONS AND COMPLEMENT IN THE
ENGINEERING AND LIBRARY DEPARTMENTS.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as
follows:
SECTION 1. Exhibit A attached to Resolution No. 4693,
adopted July 20, 1964, as amended is hereby amended by adding to
the "Engineering Department" the following:

SECTION 2, Exhibit C attached to said Resolution No. 4693
is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the job classification
schedules for Audio Visual Director and Public Works Inspector which
are attached hereto and made a part hereof.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution.
Adopted and approved this 2nd day of August , 1965.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resoultion was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting
thereof held on the 2nd day of August , 19652 by the following
vote of the Council:
AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Cooney, McLees, Memmesheimer
NOES: Councilmen: None

PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR
Job Summary
Under general supervision, personally performs difficult and
responsible inspection work; and does related work as required.
Representative Duties
Provides constant detailed inspections of the methods and ma-
terials used in the construction of streets, alleys, sidewalks,
curbs, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, driveways, approaches
culverts and sewers; reviews and interprets construction plans
and specifications; performs difficult inspection work; checks
grades, using string line or surveying instrument as necessary;
investigates subgrade conditions and determines soil values for
paving purposes; inspects compaction and grading work, rolling,
spreading of bituminous paving material and cement concrete, con-
struction and application of tack and seal coats; tests pavement
thicknesses; calculates quantity of materials, converting cubic
measurements to weight for comparison to bid estimates; performs
straightedge tests and checks proper reduction of high spots; in-
spects forms and cement pouring; checks delivery tickets; inspects
a variety of underground structures, assuring authorized construc-
tion, trenching, line and grade, checking alignment of pipe and
quality of joints; inspects backfilling of trenches, submits de-
tailed reports on work progress and material quantities, keeps
records of work progress; performs routine surveying operations,
including topographic mapping and construction staking.
Organizational Relationships:
Public Works Inspector is responsible to the Engineering
Department. An employee in this class reports to the City
Engineer or the Assistant City Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school and three years of responsible
experience in public works or engineering inspection work.
Additional college level training is desirable.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of construction methods, materials and equipment;
knowledge of principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry
and their application to engineering; knowledge of surveying
procedures, instruments and equipment; ability to determine
quality, materials and workmanship through inspection and to
determine compliance with plans and specifications; ability
to make accurate notes and sketches, prepare satisfactory work
and observation reports and to keep time records; ability to
contact craftsmen, laborers, contractors, engineers, and the
general public and to effect satisfactory working relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Education: Graduation from a four-year college. A subse-
quent fifth year leading to a degree in Library Science is r
desirable but not required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of accepted principles and practices of library
work at the professional level; knowledge of library pur-
poses, objectives and organization; knowledge of standard
reference and bibliographic.tools, particularly in the fields
of art and music; knowledge of selection tools for audio-
visual materials. Ability to judge and evaluate maturely.
Ability to promote interest in library service; ability to
read and interpret written materials; ability to spell cor-
rectly and to use good English; good speaking voice; ability
to supervise; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with
the public; ability to tell stories for and to children; high
standards of library service.
Ability to direct, train and supervise; to deal tactfully and
effectively with public, co-workers and subordinates; orderli-
ness; sense of humor; accuracy; cooperativeness; thoroughness;
good judgment; intellectual curiosity; enjoyment of reading;
poise; resourcefulness; discretion..

AUDIO-VISUAL DIRECTOR
Job Summary
Subject to direction of the City Librarian, to perform pro-
fessional and sub -professional services in the conduct of
the Audio Visual Division of the Library, and to do related
work as required. Selects audio-visual materials for pur-
chase; plans and arranges displays, special exhibits and
regular and special programs; and prepares publicity in re-
lation thereto.
Representative Duties
Reads, reviews and selects phonograph records, art reproduc-
tions, and other audio-visual materials for purchase; prepares
booking schedules for library films; maintains, including re-
winding and mending, (or supervises maintenance of) films,
film slides, film strips, art reproductions, picture file,
phonograph records; microfilm and other audio-visual materials
in library and on loan to library, and all audio-visual equip-
ment; plans special programs; plans and prepares library dis-
plays; plans regular programs in library auditorium, using
films, phonorecords, slides, art reproductions and other audio-
visual materials, for the benefit of the library's public;
prepares publicity about the above programs and materials for
release through the various information media, subject always
to approval of the City Librarian. The program includes night
work, and requires ability to work well with public and staff.
Attends film evaluation meetings and meetings of audio-visual
librarians.
