A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 4693 BY CHANGING
THE CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULES FOR FIREMAN, POLICE
OFFICER, AND SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. The classification schedules attached to Resolu-
tion No. 4693, adopted July 20, 1964, are hereby amended by substituting
the classification schedules for fireman, police officer and special
investigator which are attached hereto and made a part hereof,in place
and stead of the classification schedules for fireman, police officer,
and business license investigator, respectively, as now attached to said
resolution.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution.
Adopted and approved this 7th day of June , 1965.

thereof held on the 7th day of June 1965, by the following

POLICE OFFICER
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Minimum Requirements: High School graduation.
After appointment, an employee should be willing to at-
tend college level classes in police science and re-
lated fields during off -hours in order to qualify and
meet the requirements for advancement.
Knowledge and Abilities
A high degree of general intelligence, verbal facility,
memory and adaptability are required of all Police Offi-
cers. Ability to understand departmental policies, rules,
instructions, laws, regulations and police literature,
together with an aptitude for law enforcement work; abil-
ity to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and
reasonable course of action; ability to write clear and
accurate reports; ability to use good English and a good
vocabulary; ability to understand and follow oral direc-
tions; ability to learn the use and care of automobiles,
motorcycles and small firearms; keen observation and abi-
lity to remember names, faces and details of incidents;
ability to meet weight, height and other physical stan-
dards established by the City Council and to perform duties
requiring physical endurance and agility.
License
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license
from the State of California.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Applicants must be at least 5 feet 8 inches in height,
150 lbs in weight, have no removable dentures and at
least 20 natural teeth, uncorrected vision with no
color blindness; and must pass a physical examination
prior to probationary appointment.

POLICE OFFICER
Job Summary
Under supervision, patrols an assigned beat in the
prevention of crime and the enforcement of law and
order; carries out special assignments in the pro-
tection of life and property in investigative work;
and does related work as required.
Representative Duties
Operates an automobile in patrolling an assigned area
for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of laws
and regulations; responds to radio messages or telephone
instructions and appears at scenes of disorder or crime;
notes and reports traffic hazards; investigates and pre-
pares reports on accidents, offenses and damages to pro-
perty; gives directions and information; makes arrests;
issues citations; gives verbal warnings; prepares re-
ports on arrests and property impounded; directs traffic;
intervenes in private or public disputes to protect the r
public and maintain order; appears in court, whether on
or off duty, as the arresting officer; transports prison-
ers; investigates complaints; interrogates persons whose
actions are auspicious; writes case reports on a log of
activities; occasionally relieves a superior.officer and
acts for him;.serves on the desk, answering telephone,
taking complaints, and operating a radio telephone in
dispatching patrol cars; fingerprints prisoners, appli-
cnats, and salesmen; takes photographs of prisoners;
accepts bail and gives receipts.
As assigned to the Motorcycle Patrol, operates a two -
wheel motorcycle in patrolling streets and highways
within the city and intersections for the enforcement
of traffic violations; investigates traffic accidents;
controls traffic at the scene of accidents.
As assigned to the Detective Division, receives assign-
ments to investigate violations of state and local laws;
collects and preserves evidence; apprehends and arrests
law violators; reviews general police bulletins; makes
reports of cases handled and action taken; interrogates
witnesses and prisoners; appears in court and presents
evidence.
Organizational Relationships
Police Officer is the entering level class in the Police
Department. An employee of this class works under the
direct supervision of a Police Sergeant.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience

during off -hours in order to qualify for and meet the re-
quirements for advancement.
Knowledge and Abilities .
Ability to read and understand technical materials relating
to fire fighting and prevention and departmental regulations;
ability to apply elementary principles of chemistry and physics
to fire fighting and maintenance problems; ability to under-
stand and follow written and oral directions; ability to main-
tain cooperative working relations; physical endurance and
agility; ability to write simple fire reports.
License
Possession of a valid operator's license from the State of
California.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must have uncorrected vision and be free from
color blindness, have at least 20 natural teeth with
no rermvable dentures. Heieht must be between 5 feet
9 inches,and 6 feet 4 inches. Weipht must be between
155 lbs and 240 lbs; .he must Dass a physical examina-
tion prior to probationary appointment.

Job Summary
Under supervision, responds to fire alarms and other
emergency calls; protects life and property; partici-
pates in fire prevention, station maintenance and
training activities; and does related work as required
Representative Duties
Responds to alarms; lays hose; fights fires as directed;
cleans up and does salvage work after fires; rescues en-
dangered persons; administers first aid; operates and
maintains fire trucks, apparatus and equipment; operates
resuscitators; maintains fire and Civil Defense equipment;
maintains .fire station and grounds; attends drills and
classes; studies technical periodicals and publications;
studies local conditions, locations and regulations; may
act in place of engineer on assigned shift.
Origanizational Relationships
Fireman is the entering level class in the Fire Department.
An employee in this class works under the supervision of a
Fire Captain.

SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from high school; and
five years of experience in inspection or investigation
work, or in other business activity involving wide pub-
lic contacts or ascertainment of facts.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles of business administration;
knowledge of the principles of collection work and book-
keeping; ability to interpret laws and regulations and
to apply them to particular situations; ability to und-
erstand and explain regulations; ability to win the.res-
pect and confidence of the public; ability to make
accurate observations and reports; ability to maintain
records.
License
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license

SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR
Job Summary
Under direction, enforces business, building and zoning Ordinances,
Rules and Regulations; collects license, permit and application
fees; and does related work as required.
Representative Duties
Observes and reports violations of licensing, building, zoning,
safety and health regulations; issues citations, signs complaints,
and makes arrests when warrented; reports violations of health reg-
ulations to appropriate official;. observes. peddlers and solicitors
and ascertains whether they are properly licensed; inspects new
businesses to make surethat proper licenses have been obtained;
reviews advertisements and notices to locate.'new businesses'; fol-
lows up on business licenses.to be renewed; answers inquiries and
handles complaints regardingg license regulations; provides infor-
mation of other City departments whose approval is required; fills
in license blanks and files copies of licenses; maintains suitable
records.
Special Investipator is a cme-position class. An employee of this
class is authorized to issue citations and arrest chronic offenders
of the municipal code licensing; building and zoning"rules and regu-
lations.
