HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4854RESOLUTION NO. 4854 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROCLAIMING JUNE 16, 1965 TO BE JACKIE ROBINSON DAY. WHEREAS, Jackie Robinson is one of Los Angeles County's most distinguished citizens and sports personalities, having Arron national acclaim as an outstanding player with the Brooklyn Dodger Baseball Club of the National League; and WHEREAS, Jackie Robinson further distinguished himself as the first Negro to participate in organized professional baseball and by his recent nomination and election to the Baseball Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Jackie Robinson had previously been an outstanding athlete at the University of California at Los Angeles and at Pasadena City College; and WHEREAS, throughout his athletic and scholastic career and his subsequent business career, he has demonstrated the highest qualities of leadership and citizenship; and WHEREAS, a new county park in Littlerock, California, has been named in his honor and will be dedicated on June 16, 1965: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Azusa does hereby proclaim June 16, 1965, as Jackie Robinson Day in recognition of this outstanding citizen and the new recreation facility that will bear his name. Adopted and approved this 7th day of June , 1965.
