STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY - GLADSTONE HIGH SCHOOL The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at above time and place. Mayor Memmesheimer called the meeting to order and led Call to Order in the salute to the flag. Invocation was given by Reverend Nickum of Azusa Invocation Seventh Day Adventist Church. Present at Roll Call: Councilmem: Rubio, Cooney, Solem, Roll Call Mc Lees, Memmesheimer Also Present: City Attorney Williams, City Engineer Sandwick, Superintendent of Light & Water Smith, City Clerk Miller. Mr. R. Pucci, Director of Student Activities, introduced Students students representing Council Members & Department Heads. introduced Mayor extended greetings to all students present, including those from Center School & Baldwin Park Evening High School. Approval of Council Actions - Meeting of May 2, 1966 Presentation of Resolution and Plaque to James A. Moran, former member of the Planning Commission. Councilman Solem presented Resolution 5023 and Plaque to Mr. Moran, on request of Mayor. Councilman Solem & Mayor Memmesheimer congratulated Mr Moran for his good work on the Planning Commission, and extended their regrets upon his leaving. Consideration of bids for construction of Waterline in Easement from Aspan Ave. to Irwindale Ave. & First St. (Project #438) Appvl. Min. Presented Res. & Plaque to Mr. Moran Consideration of bids Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio Bid awarded to and unanimously carried that recommendation of City Cabildo Corp. Engineer be accepted and bid be awarded to Cabildo Corp., low bidder, and bid securities be returned to unsuccessful bidders. Consideration of bids for furnishing and installing three Consideration 12 -KV Oil Circuit Breakers and associated switchboard of bids wiring for Substation. Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Mc Lees Bid awarded to and unanimously carried that bid be awarded to A.S. SchulmanSchulman Elec. Elec. Co., low bidder, in the amount of $25,812, and that the Superintendent of Light & Water contact them re: delivery date, and that bid securities be returned to unsuccessful bidders. Continued Public Hearing on amendment to Section 9230.70 of the Municipal Code entitled "Signs" (Planning Commis- sion Res. #588 -,Planning Commission initiated). Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio Refer back to and unanimously carried to refer back to Planning Commis- Plann. Comm. sion for study & public meeting by Sign Ordinance Committee, and to continue hearing to 8/1/66 @ 7:30 P.M. Public Hearing on appeal from denials of: Variance to Appeal fr. Var. permit 3 additional pumps for an automobile service station (P.C. Res. #601 - Case V-156). Conditional Use Permit to permit an automobile service station in C-2 zone (P.C. Res. #600 - Case C-60), on property on south- east corner of Azusa Ave. & Gladstone St. (Violet M. Ott), with memo from Planning Commission re: deletion by Ord. #865 of need for Variance for additional pumps. Moved by Councilman Mc Lees, seconded by Councilman Solem Hrg. Closed and unanimously carried that hearing be closed. Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Mc Lees Permit Approved and unanimously carried that Conditional Use Permit be approved with amended restrictions as agreed, and that Attorney prepare necessary Resolution. Moved by Councilman Mc Lees, and unanimously carried that dismissed as unnecessary and applicant. seconded by Councilman Solem application for Variance be that the fee be returned to Request to address Council re: NAFES, by Mr. R. Ruth, Mr J. Backus, and Mr. H. F. Poyet, attorney (from 5/2/66). Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Cooney and unanimously carried to raise from the table. After Mr. Poyet, attorney for NAFES, addressed Council, the discussion was held, it was Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Mc Lees and unanimously carried to table until 6/6/66 meeting. Request for celebration of National Flag Day, with Proc- lamation and ceremony at City Hall on 6/14/66. Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio and unanimously carried that permission be granted to have ceremony @ City Hall, with all Department Heads in Application be dismissed as unnecessary Tabled to 6/66/ Mtg. Moved by Councilman Mc Lees, seconded by Councilman Cooney and unanimously carried to contact City of Fresno re: procedure of that city for eliminating nuisance created by pigeons. Recommendation by Board of Directors, LCC, that Resolution Curbside deliver be adopted, opposing Post Office regulations re: curbside of mail delivery of mail within new subdivisions. Committee 1 CITY HALL AZUSA, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, MAY 16, 1966 City Engineer reported that this meeting relates to study of Royal Oaks -Sierra Madre Parkway, and he would encourage any of the Councilmen to attend, if possible, and requested that those who can to notify his office. (Councilman Cooney and Solem indicated their intention to attend.) Termination of Agreement between City & Visiting Nurse Assn., effective with -in 60 days, due to inauguration of Federal Medicare Program on 7/1/66. Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio and unanimously carried that execution of Notice of Termination of Agreement be executed by Mayor and City Clerk, and forwarded to Visiting Nurse Assn. Resolution granting to Southern Calif. Edison the right and permit to erect and maintain electric power lines along portion of Todd Ave., between Foothill Blvd. and 10th Street.
